Your Interview Outfits

Nurses Job Hunt

Published

I am starting this thread because most interview threads are really outdated and they're not that helpful. I want us to be able to post what we wore to our interviews.

Everyone should post their attire and then we can all make suggestions or ask for help or opinions. I am Interviewing this coming week and I just bought an outfit. I was trying to use AN for suggestions but didn't find much.

So if we all just post what we wore we can start to help each other out in this so super important and scary part of our journey! Good luck everyone!

I bought:

Beige Cardigan

Green floral top layered with peach and beige undershirts

Peach braided necklace

Beige/Khaki jegging like professional pants

Black closed toe flats

I'll wear my hair half up and half down so it's out of my face but still shows me. I'll wear minimal but functional day makeup with bronzes and clear lips an nail polish.

Now I know this sounds very casual but when I put it on it looks so good. I wanted to stand out and not be boring looking. I want to be remembered and the colors definitely are perfect for Spring. It's business casual and I feel very confident in it. I don't look or feel confident at all in a suit. I also look horrible in black pants and a top. The black pants I do have require high heels and I would never wear heels to a nursing interview. They'll think I can't be a nurse because I can't even walk!! Lol

My outfit Is something I would wear under my lab coat if I were an NP. It says I'm inviting and cheerful but also professional. At least I hope :)

Everyone has such great suggestions. All your outfits sounds very professional as well. Thank you!!!

I went ahead and went with my black pants, there was too much beige and I thought it looked a lot more professional. I've hired many people and I wouldn't turn down someone with this outfit (jeggings) had I thought they were a good candidate. Now if someone came in with a tank top and flip flops or sweat pants or their hair completely dirty. Yea I would definitely say no thanks. But any one who is trying to look professional and clean cut, and even fit the season wouldn't bother me. I had compliments on my outfit all day. The nurse managers said they don't really like suits. So... Go figure. I think it comes down to your attitude and the way you communicate and carry yourself. Of course unless they flat out say "wear a suit". But I started this thread knowing there are lots of people who have no idea how to even look business casual. So please continue to share your outfits and make suggestions. I love it!!!:)

I don't think I've ever heard a manager of any kind ever say they don't like suits before. Very interesting. I really have to wonder why opposition so strong that they would come out and say something so against the "norm"

I wore grey slacks, sky blue shirt, Navy Blue sports coat, and a beaming yellow tie. I was complimented on my appearance and offered the job.

I have heard that cleavage is a definite no - no. I have also heard from the school of thought that a suit is over dressed...part of it might depend on the culture of the particular work place.

Dress for the interview. If you are going to a small place, business casual is usually fine. If you are going to a big corporate facility then you need the business dress. Personally, I hate black suit with white shirt; I don't feel comfortable or confident and that's what it boils down to.

I have two outfits that I wear to interviews:

Outfit #1

Peach/rose colored blouse

Black Slacks

Black flats

Outfit #2

Black knee length pencil/suit skirt

Blue silk tank under elbow length black cardigan

Matte Gold Flats

My hair is not long enough to pull it up so I pin it partially up usually

I wear one set of plain earrings, and a locket necklace usually

Light makeup

Suits make me feel uncomfortable and I think you can tell pretty easily in anyones body language when they are so thats why I opted for the cardigan because it still gives a similar look.

Black suit, always.

Just landed a job wearing my go to suit I wore when I got the job I'm now resigning from. Black quality slacks, matching blazer with black buttons and a tiny bit of silver bling on them. Black/white low pumps with a little bit of detail to the strapping----very understated but a little kicky compared to plain black. I wore small silver hoop earrings and my wedding rings and that's it.

While I was waiting for my "team", they came for another interviewee. She had on black slacks, a bright, but pretty pink top and a black jacket that was clearly to small. She was tugging and pulling the whole time she sat waiting.

a suite is always the go to, cant go wrong with it.. I have two interviews over the next two days planning to wear

black pants, low black heels( I hate heels!), navy blue mid long sleeve with a black blazer. hair up and back, wedding ring and diamond ear rings. light makeup ofcourse

Just landed my second nursing job in outpatient surgery- I wore a teal 3/4 length jacket over a black and white patterned print shirt, grey slacks, silver flats with matte silver nails. Hair was down and naturally styled, no makeup. Probably a touch too casual for the hospital environment , but I had a first interview at the place before and was basing my outfit on the culture.

Here in the South, you'll tend to see more bright colors in interview outfits and business casual, as well as lighter fabrics. It's obvious who comes to interview from out of state because of the severe black and or navy suits in the sweltering summer.

Light grey or beige suits still look neat and seem seasonally appropriate.
