Second interview anxiety

Nurses Job Hunt

Published

Hello!

I am a new graduate nursing student. I am happy to say I got an second interview with my dream hospital. I am meeting with the director of nursing and Vice President of nursing. I'm very nervous because I want to make a good impression. I did well on the pharm test. The HR rep seemed to like me which is why she decided I should have a second interview. She told me that on my second interview, they like to ask clinical situation questions.

What should I expect going into that interview and how can I best prepare?

Any tips are appreciated. Thank you!

Good luck on your second interview!!! I would remember your ABCs when answering, prioritizing, never leaving an unstable patient alone, and so on. Look up behavioral questions and prepare by thinking of some of your clinical experiences and how you handled this or that. If you search on AN there are some good articles and threads on common interview questions and how to answer them.

Lastly, be confident and make good eye contact.

Thank you. I will do my best to remember all of those tips. As long as the clinical questions are straightforward I think I have a shot. There's something about meeting with the head of nursing that makes me quiver. I honestly did not even expect to get a second interview.

Keep us posted! Also, don't rush to blurt out your answer, it's ok to take a moment and think it through.

It it is great that you got the second interview!!! Go in and nail it!

Read over the JC's national patient safety goals and HCAHPS survey questions. Try to work those in as you are answering questions. Good luck!
