Interview, havent heard back

Nurses Job Hunt

Published

So I managed to land an interview at my dream hospital for my dream job. The interview went well, I thought. The interviewing manger kept saying things like "the orientation you'll get...." And "your preceptors are...." And the like. After a few "you will get/we will set you up with" he would quickly say "if we offer you the position I mean"...so I thought it went well. That was last Friday (not this one just past, the one before). I asked how long it should be before I hear back and he said a week to a week and a half. I sent a thank you email about an hour after the interview, so I did that. I don't want to bother the guy, but today is a week and a half and I haven't heard anything. I'm thinking of sending the following email. What do you all think?

Hello Mr X,

I just wanted to say thank you once again for the opportunity to interview with you last week. I wanted to let you know the interview was very informative and makes me want to work at XXXX that much more. I was wondering if there were any pointers you could give me for the next interview down the line, ways to improve my interview skills? As stated in my interview my "dream job" is at XXX in the XX department. If you have a moment perhaps you could give me some pointers for the next time we have an interview once I have more experience, I am eager to impress you, so I too can find my "perfect job" with XXXXX.

Thank you again,

ItsNowOrNever

My husband says it sounds too defeatist. What do you think?

I fixed the misspelled "with"

Specializes in CCM, PHN.

Good grief. Sounds WAY too desperate and anything that long screams "THIS PERSON IS A TIME BANDIT!" Try this:

Hello Mr. xxxxxx,

I just wanted to drop a line to say "thank you" for the interview, and any consideration of my qualifications for the position. I look forward to further communication. Have a great week!

- Your name & credentials

That's PLENTY.

OMG that's perfect! I couldn't figure out how to ask directly! Thank you!

Specializes in Aesthetics, Family Medicine.

You could write what the previous poster did....but I'd still give it a little time. But I'm sure it doesn't hurt to remind them who you are. Good luck!

Specializes in Pediatrics, Emergency, Trauma.

When I was in the interviewing process of the position I'm starting next month, I sent a thank you email and (gasp) ASKED how long it will take for a decision to be made. I got an answer: two weeks (my references came back, etc...I remained actively communicating throughout the recruiting/interviewing process.) Approximately two weeks later, they offered me the position. And it's my dream job: PICU (Critical Care and Peds, both specialities I LOVE) at a Children's Hospital. Be assertive and ask...GO after your dream! :)

Thanks all. I did email him and blended the suggestion and shortened my message. I didn't want to come across as saying "hey, you said a week and a half and I still haven't heard anything"...when I emailed he emailed back about 20 min later saying they were still interviewing so hang in there. I'm sitting on pins and needles!!!!!!! Every weekday I go to bed sad that they didn't call, but not hopeless. It's my dream job in the hospital I've wanted since I started this journey. I WILL get that job some way, some how, at some point!!!!!! I WILL!!! Thank you for the comments!

Good luck! I'm in the same boat! Waiting is the worst part, I hope you get it! =)
