Interview and future plans?

  1. 0
I'm interviewing for Med/Surg position. Hoping to get my foot in the door. If my long term goals are more specialized do I not mention them when they talk about goals or can I intertwine my future goals with the organization as a whole and not just a specific area id (med/surg.)

Example: this particular hospitals has one of 5 (in the entire state) mentoring programs for CDE....if my ultimate goals include becoming a CDE should I mention how thrilled I was to see that in the future I might be able to participate in this program at their hospital?

I'd be careful in talking about stuff other than your immediate med/surg opportunity. If you mention CDE (??Certified Diabetes Educator??) as a goal, then the med/surg folks might feel that you're just "using them" to get your foot in the door so that you can achieve your ultimate goal. I'd recommend that you be somewhat vague in discussing long term goals.

    Good luck!

I would leave that out. if the unit director is the one doing the final selection why would she pick someone who she knows is already planning their escape to another floor.

That's a tricky question. Too much education too soon = you won't stay. No future plans = not motivated. You should be honest, but vague.
