New Clinical Analyst HMS

  1. 0
    good morning all

i've recently accepted a rn position as a clinical analyst for hms at my local hospital where i worked as a med-surg nurse the past three years, prior to that i had one year of experience as an icu nurse (i know i did everything backwards!) i've also stayed on per-diem on the med-surg floor, to keep up my skills..i'm enjoying the new job, getting to see the other side of the spectrum. at the hospital i work for, the clinical analysts reside in the it department, and we have one "informatics nurse" who works in nursing education but who is extremely involved in the it department. honestly, i'm not sure why the two positions are separated.

any who, i am currently pursuing my bsn with chamberlain college of nursing (which i will complete next august ) and then am going to go right for my msn in informatics. was just wondering if anyone could recommend a good online program - i heard some good things about walden university.

husband is very supportive of my decision, especially since there was a huge raise in salary, but is concerned with the "stability" of the job. does anyone think nursing informatics is going to be phased out in the future? i told him it's projected to grow, and i really feel like i'm doing the right thing right now (i'm 6 months pregnant! it gets to be near impossible working the floor and being huge but his thoughts really made me think...

just looking for input and opinions (and encouragement :d). thanks!

congrats on the new job. and you're correct, this is one of the specialties that is growing. i read that somewhere, but too lazy to google it. maybe others have the article to back that up....

i would tell your husband that american vendors are not only continuing to grow their businesses in the usa, but some of them have implemented, and will implement their software in europe, the middle east, and south america.

i'm not worried about this specialty being phased out. and yes, you will hear of it jobs being outsourced to countries like india, the phillippinnes, romania, etc,. but how many people there have an rn degree with clinical experience?

matter of fact, at the rate the economy is going in the usa, wall street will crash first, before your job is phased out. now, that is something to think about if you got one of those 401k's.

I think this field is growing. I'm involved in my hospitals implementation of an EHR, I took a temporary position as a Credentialed Trainer and loving it. I'm looking into MSN degrees with a focus on informatics.

Well written Ikarus!. More than "growing" this specialty and the industry are exploding!

Nursing Informatics is no longer a new or emerging discipline but an established specialty, recognized as such by ANA since 1992.
