MSN in Informatics???

I am trying to select a graduate major in nursing. My choices are NP-Women's Health and Informatics.
Any suggestions about majoring in Informatics? Are jobs plentyful? What type of positions would fit a nurse with a MSN in Informatics? Thank you

yvette, the informatics nurse is basically the nurse who works with the IT/systems folks. Do you have a computer background? Because that's what it is.

yES, THERE ARE JOBS IN IT BUT, AS WITH EVERYTHING IN THI RECESSION, SINCE IT ISN'T DIRECTLY PATIENT CARE RELATED (AS IN HANDS ON) A LOT OF STUFF IS ON HOLD RIGHT NOW.

Greetings Yvette,

I've been a practicing RN for 23 years and working in healthcare informatics for 10 +years. Be aware healthcare, nursing and medical informatics are about utilizing technology to improve patient care and clinical practice. Learn about the specialty. I'd say there are more jobs out there for experienced informaticists and a fair number of open entry level positions too. You do not have to have a MSN or an MSN in informatics to work in this specialty................ but advance education does increase your general marketability. Good Luck!

Ive been looking at the AMIA list of schools that have elearning certs and MS degrees : http://www.amia.org/informatics-acad...ining-programs and really just dont know where to start. eeeek. I would love to be involved in EMR?EHR implementation/training and maybe pick up some system analyst knowledge. thanks.

thanks. i read both those links. i have 2 other questions is there any downside/difference in 1. getting a MSN with a specialization in Informatics vs the other master that say Masters in Nursing Informatics or the differences in the title? 2. If that program in accredited by NLNN vd CCNE- does that matter either? thanks. I am just deciding among programs, this will be self paid and I don't want to make any incorrect choices.

also does anyone have any good or negative opinions re: Univ. of Phoenix or its online programs???? thanks

As far as I know there is no downside between choosing a MSN with a major in Informatics vs a Masters in NI. Look at the course description to see exactly what areas the degree program focuses on or includes.
Related to accreditation:
