LOINC mapping for lab results

Has anyone found a good way to map lab results to LOINC codes? We are going to be undertaking this project for Meaningful Use. Some of the labs we send out to have been helpful in providing LOINCs, but to a large extent looking up the codes is a manual process. Any recommendations on what worked at your institutions? Many thanks for your feedback.

I'm surprised your LIS or HIS vendor is not assisting you with this. I'd first check with them.

They may also be able to help you write a script that will take care of the majority of the work for this.

Good Luck

Technically a result is not what gets the Loinc code. It is a long story but Loinc is the Question and SNomed is the answer.

But, of the over 60000 loinc codes the majority of common lab tests are associated with approximately 2000 codes is all.

Using the RELMA tool (absent of vendor help), or hiring a contractor is the way to go. Also to assur MU compliance make sure you use the correct LOINC code set version.

I was wondering the same thing- typically - mapping LOINC codes to lab tests is done by a LIS (Lab info systems) coordinator. Depending on your EHR, you should have a nomenclature vendor who would assist with that also
