Hi! I am a new nurse (graduated in may 2017) and I am currently working in ICU. I have decided that bedside nursing is not really for me (I know, crazy considering I just started) and I was interested in nursing informatics. If anyone can tell me more about it (salary, hours, what a typical day looks like, recommended online degree programs, etc) I would really appreciate it!!
I am finishing my MSN in Informatics and have just started working on a performance service project (Care redesign team). You really need to have experience in nursing and the organization, I feel, to get a good grasp of what you want to do. I have an opportunity to ge EPIC certified and be a trainer, build in Epic, but I like dealing with data filtering and there is a lot of nuance to it.
I would keep working, maybe look at some pre-reqs or complementary classes, network with informatics people. Become a super-user. Try to get a "taste" of the different things that can be done.
It all depends on what you want to do. Good Luck!!! I think it is a great field
