Informatics degree or IT degree?

I am in the process of applying to school for a second degree. I am extremely interested in informatics and have been a super user twice and I am in the process of becoming one at my job now. But I'm torn between the nursing informatics tract or IT tract. There are pros and cons to both. I'm sort of leaning towards IT because it will open up more opportunities but then again maybe not. Help I want to start school in March.

I will soon have both. I have (2) A.S. degrees in Computer & Internet programming and in May, 2013 will graduate with my Masters in Health Informatics. With my IT degrees I learned about the technical side of things, which gave me a good foundation. With my MHI program I was able to continue on and took classes in Data Mining & Warehousing, Database Design, Systems Analysis & Design, and Project Management. In addition, I learned alot about the importance of Meaningful Use and changing healthcare within the United States. If you can find a program that gives you the best of both worlds, like the one I am in, then I think you will be better off. However it all depends on where you see your career in 5 to 10 years. If you want to work in the IT world, I would stress the IT degree. If you want to be more of the liaison or voice for nursing, patients, and physicians; then look at informatics.

I registered for the informatics degree. It would take as long and I do want to stay in healthcare. It I went the IT route it would basically be starting from scratch and I don't want to be at the bedside any longer than necessary. Thanks for your advice.
