Congressional staff takes healthcare IT field trip

WASHINGTON - As Congress gets down to business Monday, the first day of its lame-duck session, some staffers are headed to George Washington University Hospital for a healthcare IT tutorial.

The goal of the field trip is to show the impact of healthcare information technology on the facility and help staffers better understand the role of such systems in healthcare delivery and how government might assist hospitals in implementing similar systems, according to the organizers of the event.
