Calling All Newbies!

As a newly hired informatics nurse, I've been perusing the website and reading similar stories about graduate programs, job searching, learning the role, etc. I'd like to start a network of new informatics nurses (either in school, or in the field for less than a year or two). It seems like we are all going through nearly the same process, just at slightly different points in time.

If you are interested, please reply here. I cannot send anyone a private message yet (I have to create 15 Quality Topics before I have the ability to do that), but I'm sure we can figure out a way to connect.

Thanks!!

Hi, I am working on my masters in nursing informatics from Walden university. I'm on track to be done in may 2014. I am very interested in networking especially because I don't see a lot of jobs in my geographical location.

I'm starting a new position as a clinical informatics educator and would love to network with others!

Let me know also! I'd love to be part of a google group. I am in an Informatics MSN program and would love to learn from any of your experiences. I also have to interview a current nurse with their MSN in informatics if anyone is willing to help me out! I'd really appreciate anyone's help with this!

Hello. I'm new to the informatics field also. Graduated last Oct with my masters but haven't switched career fields yet. Just recently started looking for jobs & it seems you need at least 5 years experience for most positions. Would definitely like to network!

Hi [COLOR=#003366]Sys1234 !

I am a new informatics nurse :) I recieved my MSN /Informatics degree August 2012 and landed my first Purely informatics job a few weeks ago. I would love to network with other Newbies as I am starting to learn Meditech! Meditech is a bit of a Beast compared to many other systems which I have used....any tips would be greatly appreciated!

:)

Snowshooz, congrats on your new job! I'm also new and starting next week as an informatics educator, using Meditech. I have very little experience with it, but from what I remember, it's not my favorite. Oh well, I guess we'll learn to love it! I'm also am interested in any tips from those familiar with it. I've searched online for meditech tutorials, but I haven't found anything that helpful so far.

I am a travel RN and have been toying with this idea myself. Can any nursing informatics people tell me if I can still travel doing this? Can I still take a stipend? The only thing is that I travel with a dog, so a stipend would be easier.

I think you can travel, but not exactly like a travel nurse with 13-week assignments. Some informatics consultants and trainers travel - flight, room, car rental, and some other expenses paid - to client sites on Late Sundays / early Mondays and back home late Thursdays / early Fridays.

I graduate this semester with my MSN in informatics :). I'm excited, and terrified. I would love to be part of this network!

I am interested in this! I have an undergraduate degree in Information Technology - Networking, a Master's of Library Science, and an AAS in Nursing. I'm finishing my BSN in August and I will be starting the MSN-Informatics program in September. I just started my first full-time staff position.

I like to look ahead as I plan my future and I noticed job postings wanting 3-5 years of bedside experience. I haven't been looking long but I didn't notice any "entry-level" Informatics positions.

Great approach. It's ultimately about getting opportunities, but I think 3-5 years of bedside experience is good to have anyway - it's what sets you apart from the non-nurse informatics practitioners - it shapes the way you see and think and analyze things - it's what makes you a 'nurse.'

I just enrolled in an Informatics program. I'm currently an LPN working on my RN with Excelsior and have been looking at Informatics for awhile. I decided to take the plunge.
