Where do I apply for IV certification here in Manila?

hi guys, i also dont know their reasons for the IV therapy license.. i juz know that some hospitals esp. gov't hosp are requiring an IVT license for you to be hired.

FYI.. IV therapy license are given by ANSAP. there are certain requirements like:

1. PRC license no.

2. IV therapy training

3. u must have completed 6 iv insertion, 6 IV push, and 2 Blood Transfusion.. there's a form given by the institution that administered the training. u must accomplish this within 6 months after the date of ur training.

that's what i know.. if u have other infos about the IVT please feel free to share it..

6 IV insertion, 6 IV push and 2 blood transfusion??? what the heck?! is this a joke?! no offense but how did they come up with these kind of number 6, 6 and 2 then you are 'certified' already?? this is an outright insult.. whose bright idea is this? PNA? come on....what is there to learn? the only thing that we should know as nurses if IV med push is ordered are two things: should it be given slow or fast..when in doubt, if the meds indication is to lower BP or lower the HR, give it slow for 2 to 5 minutes..for blood transfusion, check it with another RN, know your 5 Rs and you are all set..

I hear ya! The situation over there is becoming more and more ridiculous. A lot of unscrupulous people are taking advantage of the vulnerability of our fresh graduates who fall for this kind of scam.

Sorry, but I agree with the above poster. These courses are becoming a joke, and are just ways for the schools to get money. And if you are planning to get that certification for working in the US, please save your money. None of those courses are accepted in the US, and you will have to go thru the requirements here for the facility that hires you.

are you planning to be an iv therapist? because if you do want to be an iv therapist in the u.s., don't waste your time and money for iv seminars in the philippines..since your iv certification is not valid here. if you are planning to work here, the hospital will train you to be an iv therapist, otherwise, if you are a regular staff nurse here, you don't need to insert iv's. don't even bother taking other certification classes like bls, acls, etc., your employer will help you with that.:icon_razz:

all IV therapy trainings are under ANSAP... may if be given by PNA or Delos Santos.... you will be given ID by the ANSAP... remember in the law RA 9173? ANSAP is the only body that handles training on IV theraphy...

hi rnhawaii! i am just wondering about your comment. i have worked in many hospitals with an iv team but for the most part, the staff rn's still insert their iv caths and start the infusion. the iv team is only called when the rn is having difficulty with the insertion or if it is a picc line the patient needs. is it different there in hawaii?

i still don't advocate for nurses to go through those iv training sessions in the philippines though. iv insertion is very simple to do and just requires practice to get better at. by the way, what does ansap stand for?

The IV team is only called when the RN is having difficulty with the insertion or if it is a PICC line the patient needs. Is it different there in Hawaii?

hi. this reply may be late. but for those who want to attend an IV training, capitol medical center (along quezon ave) conducts such training for 3 days. it is ANSAP accredited so after you complete your cases (6cases IV insertion, IV push, and Blood transfusion) you can have your license na. :) i attended their dec training. i think they will have another one next month (jan 2007). they dont usually conduct IV training every month but they will conduct another seminar next month because they require their nurses(applicants) to be IV therapists, and they have lots of outsiders who registered last time...

nursing students are not allowed to do IV insertion, do IV push, transfuse bloo and all that. we can only regulate IV infusions, monitor patients etc. because according to our nursing law here in the phil, you must first be an IV therapist, before you can do all that. and besides, patients will not let students to insert their IV lines because it is a painful experience right. so staff nurses are the ones who start their IV lines, if not, interns or the residents or physicians... therefore, it is only after you graduate (usually) that we experience here IV therapy, so we have to be trained for it even if we studied it (through books only) during college.

it was debated actually why we have to do such training/seminars about IV therapy. and the chief nurses of different hospitals agree that it is better to have such training to their nurses because even trained nurses (IV therapists) commit small errors in IV therapy. what more to those who did not undergo such training right.

ANSAP is the organization assigned by PRC to conduct training of IV therapy to nurses here in the Philippines and not PNA. i heard it's because ANSAP is composed of senior nurses, nursing administrators, chief nurses, and the like. so they are more experienced, and they can conduct these seminars in their hospitals easier. they can reserve the auditoriums, materials etc. in ther institutions more readily because they are in high positions and also they have easy access to these resources.
