is it true that when you are hired your appointment status is that of a contractual employee? if ever that is the case how many months would it take for you to become a permanent employee..

AFAIK, you are referring to probationary period status. My brother has been on probationary for 6months then been regularized after.

PGH accepts applicant for manpower pooling only and it takes a long while to get in but if you qualified after going through the screening process ( NPE, Panel Interview and Final Interview) then you will be hired as a staff nurse and I think it's a permanent employment although just like many other institutions there might be a probationary period which ranges from 6 months or more...well I'm waiting for my final interview, I just had my panel interview in October 2012.

Based on the posts in different PGH threads, the wait time takes about 3-5 years to get in. I don't think PGH would let their applicants wait that long, eventually hire them and just let them go just like that, it wouldn't make any sense at all. If I remember it right, PGH nurses renew their contracts every 2-3 years which just means that your employment is guaranteed unless you opt not to renew it, and as far as I know most nurses opt not to renew it to pursue greener pastures abroad. :)

Hey sab, is your brother UP- Manila graduate? If not how long did it take him to get in?

Hi mikeru. :) He is not a UP-M graduate. He came from a Adamson University. Nursing in AdU started just around 8years ago. You might be surprised hehe as some people were when they heard about BSN in AdU.Anyway, he processed his papers for around a year and 11months. PGH is his dream hospital. After 3years of being an RN, he was called then last May 2012. I am hoping as well that I will be able to work there though I am interested in different path of Nursing...more of RN-EMT. :) How about you, when you passed the NPE? :)

Haha well I know a couple of friends who took nursing at AdU. Nursing in my school was offered almost at the same time when AdU did. Hmmm did you mean to say that it took him almost 4 1/2 years to get in (1 1/2 year to process his requirements and 3 years wait time)? I passed the NPE last January 2012.

Did you have your panel interview already? They will ask you which are do you want to be assigned, you probably would want to be assigned to ER :) I told them I want to be assigned in the Pay Ward or NICU wahaha but if they would ask me again, I'll let them know that I really am interested in Psyhiatric Nursing. I was told they also have a Psychiatric Ward.

No, it's not 4 1/2 years. What I meant was he got his dream of becoming a PGH Nurse after 3 years of being an RN. :)

My brother graduated and passed the NLE in 2009. He passed the PGH NPE in June 2010, Panel Interview in Sept. 2010 and Final Interview on Aug. 2011. He was then called for deployment in May 2012. So it was about 1 year and 11 months overall waiting time for him (he heard that even UP Manila grads wait 6 mos. - 1 year to be deployed). While waiting, he undergone trainings and became part of RN Heals just like you. :)

He said he was lucky that his application was not affected by an election ban as PNoy had just started his term when he passed the exam. :) (There was a mid-term election ban this January - June 2013, which may be the reason some applcation takes 3 years.)

He also told me that he has a colleague who submitted requirements 1 day ahead of him and was scheduled for panel interview 1 week earlier and was deployed 6 months earlier. He was also supposedly to start as early as March 2012 but had to give way for UPM grads who started at that time. That was his only regret in his application. Hehe. :up:

Oh I see. :) He is indeed very lucky. I've seen some applicants who have been waiting for 2 years and more for the final interview. I wish I had also started with my application earlier. I graduated in 2008 and took the NLE that same year but I never had the courage to pursue my application at PGH because I didn't feel ready to take the NPE until 2011. Haha. Oh well, I just didn't really have any other choices left then but now the tides are changing. I hope to have my final interview soon.

I have read kasi in one blog that she was hired initially as a contractual (junior) staff nurse (Nurse I) then after six month her appointment status was changed to permanent and at the same time was promoted as Nurse II (Senior Staff Nurse). I must say that their opportunity for career advancement is quite good. In other government hospitals the position title of Nurse II has a descriptive title of Senior Nurse/Head Nurse which generally takes yearsssss before you get promoted for the position.

I would love to try to apply there, specially that Job Order

Hi jap07. Yes they are still conducting NPE. All you need to do is go to the DNRD, it's located on the 2nd floor near ICU, get an application form, fill it in, and pay P 150-250.00 (I forgot the exact amount) in the Billing office and get a schedule of the NPE. In 2011, I had to wait for a month from the time I submitted my application paper. Just bring a resume, cedulla and Passport size pic in white background.
