It's So Hard to Look for a Local Job!!!!

I recently passed the nclex. I'm so thankful to allnurses, the information here helped me a lot to pass it. Since I reviewed and concentrated on the exam, I resigned from my teaching job. Now it's so hard to look for a job opening for staff nurses here. Even trainings are no longer available. I need to earn and save for IELTS. I'm so tempted to apply at a call center company. Any suggestions? I've been to every hospital that I know (UST, St. Lukes, Chinese, UDMC, Amang, Marikina Valley, Heart center, NKTI, Lung center, V. Luna, PGH) I live in fairview qc. There are offers for volunteer nurse at south superhighway medical center in paranaque but I can't afford to work there!!!! No salary, and its too far...Its so depressing. :madface::banghead:

That just is not happening as there are many that post here that are working as CIs and they have just recently finished school and have not one day of work experience in the hospital.

Your country can set all of the rules and regulations that they want, but they are most definitely not being followed.

When you are learning from an instructor that has never worked, things are just going to go from bad to worse. In any other country, this is not even possible. The master's degree means nothing, actual physical experience as a functioning RN means everything.

for those nurses who are from the provinces but who went to big cities (metro manila, cebu, davao, cgayan de oro, baguio,etc) to study and who cannot find work maybe its best if you wold consider going back to your hometowns. there are several district hospitals in each provinces and one only need to inquire from there on how to apply. don't be choosy on the hospital you want to work with since its impossible to find a hospital accepting staff nurses much less volunteers. aside from the the fact that you can gain hospital experience by working in the district hopsitals, you can also serve the people from your hometown and not just some random patients from the city. AND, you can save on your fare, board and lodging since you will be living in your own home. :)

:twocents::wink2:

sad to say but because of the tremendous number of nurses, it is still difficult to find a job even in some provinces. like in our province you have to be first endorse by the city mayor!!! even if just being a volunteer.. :argue::argue:

To expand on Suzanne's idea, I have a suggestion of Parish Nursing. It is a new field of nursing that is gain popularity. Would work if you have a religious affliation.

Parish nursing is a type of nursing which is tied to the church community. One link shows how to set a budget

It would seem to be an ideal way to gain nursing experience and filling a community need. Also it may be a way to work around govermental licenses.

Nothing would impress an employer than to see a nurse form there own way of practicing nursing.

i have my misgivings about that one, for...

1. majority of filipinos in the luzon and visayas region are catholic. which means that to implement this, we have to work to the central leaders, unlike in a protestant/adventist/baptist/other christian churches where they are decentralized. and as of now the catholic church here is full of fighting poverty and administering to the masses, not to mention dabbling with politics.

2. in other christian churches, it is possible(a few of them has a majority of upper- and middle-class members). problem happens when politics(AGAIN:banghead:) rears its ugly head. separation of church and state? WE WISH...:saint:

The catholic churches in every country that I am aware of have parish nursing, this is not a new concept and can be found in every country. You may just need to look for some other parishes farther away from you.

But again, take the time to do some research on it instead of just saying that is cannot be done. This is how things get started, and if nurses did not create things from when they got started and pushed for things, then nursing would not even exist today.

The hospice movement in the US was driven by an all volunteer workforce. Now the hospice concept is all over the USA and the nursing staff get paid.

Do you have a visiting nurse system, if not go to your local clinic and ask for referrals for patients who need home care.

Moving out of your country is not the only answer.

Do any of you belong to Sigma Theta tau? They often offer scholarships and grants for such purposes.

We are trying to make suggestions, but you need to put forth the effort in trying to do some of these. They are all completely viable, but if you do not try, you will never know.

Hope this helps..

St. Luke's Medical Center's new site which will be in taguig, is screening for nurses, and other allied health workers, as well as for administrative positions. Bring resume and 1x1 pic at the 16th floor of St. Lukes Cathedral heights Bldg. Please hurry, Training will start by August, so we still have time to apply there. Dont be confused, head at the QC site. Since the new site wont open until August 2009, training will be at QC first. Hand your resume to the guard on duty, then fill up the form coming from the hospital (the guard will give it to you) and wait for the call back for an initial interview.

Its an advantage if you have BLS and IVT if youre a nurse. So, go earn your cerificates Asap!!

Ciao, and good luck :yeah::lol2::D:bow::chuckle

it's really so hard to look for nursing jobs here in phil. with tens of thousands of new nurses joining the profession every june and december, what would you expect?

yes, the catholic church works good, but as of now it is overwhelmed with issues here(birth control, food prices, etc.) and most health services offered in places farther from us are usually controlled by the LGUs(local gov't units/i.e. municipal or provincial gov't, like a county or something). there politics play:you have an easier time if you're closer to the higher ups.

and as of the other christian churches, i've seen that concept work, and i've also seen it destroyed three times in 3 different provinces. as long as politics are in, it's in rough seas. and that's my assessment of the situation here based on my experiences.

but to tell the truth, i haven't seen it in muslim communities. even though i'm not a muslim, i'd better see if that'll work.

St.Lukes Medical Center is hiring now. You can send your resume through email. Just call their HR and ask for the email address and wait for their reply. And also East Avenue Medical Center is still accepting volunteers, just photocopy your license then go to EAMC Coop and ask for a volunteer sheet, fill it up, then give it to Ms. Helen Lagumen in the training office 3rd Floor OPD building. They're still accepting volunteer applicants until August 8, 2008. The training is good for 1 month and for free.

Well St.Lukes is always on the process of "hiring" nurses but i dont think they are really doing that. a lot of nurses have applied on this hospital already but got no response from them.
