It's So Hard to Look for a Local Job!!!!

World Philippines

Published

I recently passed the nclex. I'm so thankful to allnurses, the information here helped me a lot to pass it. Since I reviewed and concentrated on the exam, I resigned from my teaching job. Now it's so hard to look for a job opening for staff nurses here. Even trainings are no longer available. I need to earn and save for IELTS. I'm so tempted to apply at a call center company. Any suggestions? I've been to every hospital that I know (UST, St. Lukes, Chinese, UDMC, Amang, Marikina Valley, Heart center, NKTI, Lung center, V. Luna, PGH) I live in fairview qc. There are offers for volunteer nurse at south superhighway medical center in paranaque but I can't afford to work there!!!! No salary, and its too far...Its so depressing.:banghead:

Im in the same boat....!!!I have graduated 2 years ago...im part of the June 2006 batch. Since im a second courser, i've decided to finish the retake first last June 2007. Well, I thought it was better so my employers will not question my competence and integrity. I've also tried to finish the other exams first. However, I've started to apply after the retake...lucky for me I already have 2 volunteer work but still no permanent job.:banghead: I know these volunteer jobs will not count as my experience but at least its helping me get acquainted with the real work scenario!!!

Im starting to get depressed too....even thinking of grabbing the Saudi opportunity for inexperienced nurses just so to gain REAL EMPLOYMENT!!Im just a little hesitant to go alone...dont know anyone from there!!!

hi..just want to ask, where did you find those saudi jobs for inexperienced nurse.. hehe,, im in d same boat with you guyz, im now looking for a job, i even applied as nursing lecturer since im not qualified as a clinical instructor because i dont have any experience yet.. thanks so much for the info

i agree..i had completed my BLS-CPR trainings and IV therapy trainings and I had applied to almost all the hospitals i know of and yet i still don't have any job..i am tempted to go to my cousin who is based in Singapore and find a job there, but like namurit said, you have to have an experience to work there..

this is so frustrating..:(

I taught for 1 sem and I found joy in teaching, however I believe that by gaining hospital experience I can be a better teacher. I guess I just have to wait and be persistent with my applications. I'm practicing for my upcoming IELTS. May be God wants me to concentrate on this first. We should pray and be positive. I believe that God will make a way. It is hard but we will endure. IELTS can open doors for me, may be I'm not for US at the moment.

hi ianjel, if you are planning to look for job in KSA, kindly read the following posts in this site:

https://allnurses.com/forums/f235/saudi-moh-237578.html.

a friend of mine just arrived in Saudi last month bringing with her zero-clinical experience. and now she's happy coz she was able to grow professionally as a nurse in Saudi -- even if the pay is not that big -- rather than waiting for calls from different hospitals here in the Phils for volunteer training where she was applying.

Greetings colleagues!!

I am a little too twisted if I will attend to this training with a 'known' hospital in quezon city or just apply to some irrelated work and earn money while waiting for my 22nd birthday so I can push my application with SRO. And at the same time I can send my NCLEX application to BON California. While awating for my Eli/ATT, work in a call center and take the IELTS exam.

Har! Har! Please help me! The training will start 2nd week of May, I still have a week to decide whether to back out or bear with them.

Have anyone here attended some staff nurse training and afterwards the hospital will absorb you? Sounds promising. I hope it is true. *sigh* SOS guys!

Merci!

Hi MiMeow^_^ user_offline.gif

I know what you are feeling. I have the same dilemmas for almost 3 months now. You are lucky to get in this trainings. I will just share perspective on this but the decision is yours alone.

Others will advice you to grab the training, are they asking for a fee? It is a rare opportunity really. You might regret passing on this chance. I also encountered nurses who opted to work in call center companies and later on regret because their nursing skills suffered.

Others will tell you to take the nclex and ielts first, but to some because of the retrogression, this is useles and impratical

I already passed nclex last february 26, I have been sending resumes to hospitals here but no positive response yet. May be it's time for me to take the ielts first and possibly file my visa screen. From there, I will decide where else to work. My family won't allow me to work in the middle east. Perhaps they have watched too much news.

Anyways, you can read different threads here. Goodluck and God Bless

It is so sad to read in this forum that the new grads of nursing schools in the Philippines have to work in call centers to earn a living because there are now way too many nurses in the country. This is underemployment pure and simple. This is a waste of precious talent of the nation.

I've learned in this forum that there are 950,000 student nurses currently enrolled in nursing schools in the Philippines. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to realize that the vast majority of these future nurses will never be employed as nurses in the Philippines. The country's hospitals simply cannot absorb these many nurses. And with the proliferation of sub-standard nursing schools churning out nurses with sub-standard education and training, these poor future nurses will have very low chances of being recruited by foreign hospitals let alone by local hospitals.

As I have written in this forum before, foreign nurse recruiters have the luxury of choosing ONLY nurses who graduated from top nursing schools, ONLY nurses who have high scholastic records, and ONLY nurses who got high passing grades in local nursing licensure exam and/or NCLEX.

Tell me, if I were a recruiter and I need 30 nurses and there are 3,000 applicants, I would be a fool if I didn't choose whom I believe are the best 30 applicants among those 3,000.

There are now tens of thousands of unemployed nurses in the Philippines and if you think this is bad, wait till those 950,000 student nurses graduate from their nursing schools in just a few short years from now. For the sake of argument, if "only" 500,000 of them pass the licensure exam in the Philippines, then the number of the unemployed nurses in the Philippines would be mind boggling!

Who's to blame? Let's start at the top. The current Philippine president encourages the exportation of Filipino nurses to other countries and in the process allowed the opening and operation of many sub-standard schools of nursing. This then allowed the acceptance of hundreds of thousands of unqualified students into nursing schools. Yes, "the buck stops" at the president and it should.

Here in the U.S., the majority of students accepted in nursing schools are the cream of the crop, or nearly so. I know this because many of my fellow nurses who were educated here in the U.S. have told me of their hardships while in nursing school. It was hard for them to get accepted in nursing schools in the first place. They had to study hard and the standards are very high.

In the Philippines, many of the recent nursing graduates could not even pass the Philippine licensure examination. Over half of them failed, if my memory serves me right. This is one solid proof that many of the country's nursing schools are producing graduates who are less qualified to become nurses.

Many of the dreams and aspirations of these Filipino nurses and their families will not be fulfilled. This is very sad indeed. I remember very well when I was a young college graduate many years ago, I had the same dreams and aspirations for my future. Thankfully, in the 1970's there were only a total of about forty schools of nursing in the whole Philippines and luckily my generation of nurses received a much better quality of education than what many of the current generation of Filipino student nurses who are enrolled in sub-standard schools of nursing in the Philippines. Not to be too melodramatic, just thinking about this really breaks my heart. (SF, Ca.)

Right. It's really depressing. I just got home because I "hospital-hopped". Unfortunately, all of the hospitals I have been to have no vacancies. I tried to apply in a call center, I am actually on my final interview tomorrow night if ever I pass the call simulation but I am not interested anymore. I don't think it would help me enhance my knowledge and skills as a nurse. I wish the government would do something about this thousands of nurses who can't find their desried job.
