Hello i would like to invite those who passed the NCLEX but without Review Centers. Please share your experiences, strategies and methods of study to inspire and motivate those future nurses like me who will take the NCLEX by self review. Please take time to answer the following questions:

1. What are the materials that you used?

2. How many hours per day did you study? how many questions did u answer per day?

3. How many days or months in total you studied before taking the exam?

4. What are the specific strategies that you used or the the test taking skills you applied during the exam?

5. Take one or take two?

Thank you.. This will be a great help for us...

Count me in. I am a full-time call center agent. I didn't got to review because I need money. My brother who was financing me gives me money but it wasn't enough for my budget. I am from Pangasinan but I am now in Manila and living alone here because I want to concentrate on the NLE and also now, for NCLEX.

1. What are the materials that you used?

Gapuz, Balita (was very useful)

2. How many hours per day did you study? how many questions did u answer per day?

4 hours per day. gets to answer 100 question per day

3. How many days or months in total you studied before taking the exam?

starting june of 2009 to november 2009. 6 months

4. What are the specific strategies that you used or the the test taking skills you applied during the exam?

there's a lot to avoid like TV, DVDs, watching movies, no liquors or gimicks at all, avoid things that are time consuming, i go to laundry shops for my clothes, i use styro at my rum so i wont wash dishes... you should also traet yourself from time to time doing things or buying things to compliment yourself for reviewing well

5. Take one or take two?

take one ;o)

Ur welcome. I hope a lot would be inspired that even if the opportunity doesn't permit you to enroll in a review center... that you could still make it with just discipline, determination, and courage

anyone here who had experiences with rn license in maryland? i took ielts and nclex last year and passed. i don't have ssn. are there any special considerations with license in maryland as with the california license? thanks.

and regarding the topic of passing nclex, if you have enough discipline to study without being guided by a review center, then you can do it alone.

Specializes in Medical and general practice now LTC.

You would be better contacting the BON and asking them direct this question

NCLEX never expires. Once you are an NCLEX passer you are ALWAYS an NCLEX passer. Your license, on the other hand, does not expire.

You can also renew your license, you don't have to endorse.

Most states will not accept endorsement from california for foreign nurses, so bear that in mind. You should apply for licensure from the stat you intend on living/working.

If you apply to California and endorse, you'll end up spending twice the amount of money and time than if you'd just apply to the intended state in the first place.

You cannot use California as a "back door" to get into the USA easily.

I have a question, what if after passing the NCLEX exam and you still don't have a hospital experience or you didn't practice your profession. So, is there any units or requirements that you need to procure for you to renew your NCLEX license? I have to take my ARKANSAS State Board exam and yet I don't have hospital experience. It's quite difficult to find a hospital job here in the Philippines because we're politically inclined.

Thanks in advance..

Renewals vary from one state to another and they have slight differences for foreign RNs than US RNs. Besides that, any information I give now would be irrelevant by the time you have to renew the license.

Just focus on getting experience as best as you can. There are hospitals in Saudi, Dubai and Kuwait that will give you US-level experience.

If you have the funds to process through, you can take bridging courses in Australia or New Zealand and obtain a job there. However a lack of experience will make it harder to land a job once the bridging course is complete.

We're hoping to see Noynoy expand the NARS program to help Filipino Nurses become employed at least long enough to qualify for work abroad. The 1st Annual Fun Run to raise awareness and promote unity among Filipino nurses is happening this December. Check out Rachell Allen offices to see how you can participate. This event is aimed at raising awareness to the problems nurses face in the Philippines and give nurses a chance to make the government pay attention.

Hello i would like to invite those who passed the NCLEX but without Review Centers. Please share your experiences, strategies and methods of study to inspire and motivate those future nurses like me who will take the NCLEX by self review. Please take time to answer the following questions:

1. What are the materials that you used?

- saunders, frye's nursing bullets, lacharity and for practice tests, i used saunder's cd, davis's nclex rn, kaplan cd, the nclex3500 link. i started out answering 20-25 questions everyday and increased the number of items as i go along. on my last month, i answered 75-100 questions everyday.

2. How many hours per day did you study? how many questions did u answer per day?

- i am studying almost the whole time but the thing is if i can't absorb anything anymore i stop sing my heart out while i play solitaire. i think it helped me a lot to calm myself and think as fast as i can using solitaire. hehe..

3. How many days or months in total you studied before taking the exam?

- 4 months reading everyday and 1 month for taking practice test only then 3 days before the exam i stopped doing everything. i just watched tv, sleep and relax as much as i can.

4. What are the specific strategies that you used or the the test taking skills you applied during the exam?

- test taking strategies? actually, none. just read your books everyday, pray and tell yourself everyday that you can do it. on the day of the exam think but don't over analyze stuff.

5. Take one or take two?

- luckily, take one!

Thank you.. This will be a great help for us...

good luck to you!!!

I've been waiting several months now to post on this thread!

1. What are the materials that you used?

- Saunders Q&A, FA Davis Q&A (Customize the questions, select only Analysis type - seriously this program kicked my butt so hard it gave me second thought if I'm gunna pass or fail), Kaplan 2010-2011 book and Q&A, NCLEX Made Incredibly Easy

> Didn't finish anything though, I'm an expert on procrastination

2. How many hours per day did you study? how many questions did u answer per day?

- 4 hours a day, 11 months. The serious ones though were like 3 months only. My target was always to do 100 questions a day especially on Davis.

3. How many days or months in total you studied before taking the exam?

- 11 months. For the last month I locked myself up doing questions and watching TV series

4. What are the specific strategies that you used or the the test taking skills you applied during the exam?

- use the board they give you. I used three note boards, analyze each question. do keep track of the time, always use ABC, Maslows, and other psychosocial stuff. Just dont overdo it.

5. Take one or take two?

- Take one, 265 questions. It nearly killed me.

God bless! :D

1. What are the materials that you used?

Saunders 4th edition and cd and La Charity

2. How many hours per day did you study? how many questions did u answer per day?

i study busually 8am to 5pm. answer 100 questions per day 40 days before the exam

3. How many days or months in total you studied before taking the exam?

4 months

4. What are the specific strategies that you used or the the test taking skills you applied during the exam?

answer elimination. it helps.

5. Take one or take two?

1, 75 questions!

Specializes in critical care.

1. what are the materials that you used?

saunders 3rd edition, ncsbn online review 3 weeks, kaplan's the basics & course book, kaplan's q-trainers, old notes from my cgfns review

2. how many hours per day did you study? how many questions did u answer per day?

i usually studied about 8 hours a day (not continuous). for the questions, i didn't force myself to answer lots of questions. as far as i could remember, i just see to it i answered at least 75 questions/day. then, reviewed the rationale.

3. how many days or months in total you studied before taking the exam?

2.5 months

4. what are the specific strategies that you used or the the test taking skills you applied during the exam?

assessment vs implementation

maslow's (physiologic vs psychologic)

abc's

elimination

& some educated guesses (lol!)

5. take one or take two?

take one...stopped after 75th question!

2-3months self review with the saunders comprehensive (not the q&a) and the PRC CDs for q&a (hehe) will do the trick. the former is really helpful as a refresher while the latter are very hard questions. focus on pharma, prioritization and delegation. nclex will not ask anything else

Thanks a lot for this post. this will help me a lot. I am also planning to self review for the NCLEX Exam for Texas. Definitely be reading all the post. Will start reviewing once all the requirements is done.

1. what are the materials that you used?

sunders comprehensive nclex-rn review and saunders q&a -- the best review books i have read!

2. how many hours per day did you study? not a joke, but i reviewed 8hours a day!

how many questions did u answer per day? it depends on the drills that i took. i suggest that you try using the q&a review software included in the books.

3. how many days or months in total you studied before taking the exam? 4 months

4. what are the specific strategies that you used or the the test taking skills you applied during the exam? do not be in a haste when answering the questions, you must read the question carefully, taking note of the keywords that will lead you to choosing for the best answer, (i mean best answer because most of the choices can be the answer to the question).

5. take one or take two? took it once.. i completed the exam on the 75th question.
