Nurse Jobs In Canada Questions

World Canada

Published

hi. Good Day! im a british citizen of filipino descent working as a nurse in a big NHS hospital here in London. im currently waiting for an application from an online recruiter of nurses from British Columbia. the advice i want to seek from anyone is:

1. do i need to apply for a nurse registration now or do i wait for my job application?

2. what type of exam do i need to take before i actually work there? or will i be given a "provisional" license to practice?

3. do you need a diferrent license if you are going to practice in a diferrent province or territory?

4. what's the best state to work in?

hi Gino

My advice is NO at the moment. Think well cos its not easy just doing bank shifts for months. No annual leave and no sickness. If you are financially OK my answer would still be NO. Save your money for the hard times in Alberta.

Bye

Hi Gino

I got my work permit today. Bye Bye UK.

Well Done. Conratulations! the long is finally over for you. we should get in touch. i will need advice from you specially places to rent flat, where to buy things, etc.

Hi Gino

Even though I got my TWP i have not resigned yet cos i am supposed to start on 5th January 09 at Foothills Medical Hospital. I am planning to leave the UK by 31st Dec +/- a few days. My notice period is 8 weeks so I will submit my resignation by beginning of November.

I am feeling quite nervous to leave everything behind. I have put my house on sale here in London but the price is not good so i intend to rent it to cover my mortgage costs.

I understand you are heading to Edmonton so we can still chat online. How's your resignation gone? Still planning it ot have you submitted it?

Good luck anyway.

Time line varies a bit but I think on average you are looking at 8 months from start to finish once you have eligibility to sit CRNE and have LMO from employer. I know Cocoy 2go is in the UK and there may be some differences between the UK Canadian embassy and other Canadian embassies

hi silverdragon and suzanne,

as you know i have also begun a similar process towards working in canada. am now waiting for the eligibility from CRNBC/CLPNBC. i am a filipino citizen and i have a multiple entry US tourist visa. i have been speaking with a consultant in BC, and she advised me to go to the US to have my papers processed here (i'm in the US now and my I-94 is expiring in two months so will be going back home soon and then return here next year), because she says it will be so much faster that way. she says that since the philippine embassy is one of the busiest stations in the world, it would be better to have the papers processed in the US if i can.

would you agree with her advise and would you recommend it?

I personally would start the process now once you get eligibility for CRNE instead of waiting for next year. I know the UK Canadian embassy is very busy and things still get done in a reasonable manner. The thing is you will still need a medical and you can not always guarantee how long you will get when entering the USA

Hi Cocoy,

how are you doin'?

well, as for me i just got my letter saying that i'm eligible to work in Canada. there are also some forms along with it.

but, my questions is:

1. what are those forms for?

2. what is my next logical step to do?

Hi Gino

Now you need to get the Labour Market Opinion from your employer in Edmonton. Have you got your employment contract from your new employer? You need to start gathering documents to submit to the Canadian Embassy. Go to their website and start downloading the forms. They have got a checklist so go through it.

i am leaving for calgary on the 1st of january.

Bye

Cocoy

i have got something from Edmonton saying that i have a job waiting bit what does an LMO looks like?

Geneva Helath emailed me stuff like the one that i need to submit to the Canadian Embassy and some checklist. i was told to sumbit those forms to GH first so they can check it then i will be submitting this police form as well today....
