Manitoba Nurses

I am curious as what the current job situation is for nurses in Manitoba. I've read that Canada needs nurses but I've also read that some nurses are having a tough time looking for a job. I want to hear from someone who actually is from Manitoba or nearby provinces. Thank you.

Why not post your question under the Canadian tab? Or maybe have the mods move it over to there?

According to figures from the Manitoba Nurses Union (2013) shortage still exists. Currently the province still provides funding to recruit and retain nurses. Check out the link below and see how many job openings are there for nurses (and that's just for Winnipeg region)

I would suggest talking to nurses that actually live and work in Manitoba. Figures found online rarely paint a true picture.

I live and work in Winnipeg, MB. Even if you just have a part time position, almost always, you can get full time hours since they cant fill in open positions. I work in Long Term Care. Not sure how it is in acute care though.

Are there a lot of jobs open?

I wasn't sure which tab this would go under since I am an IEN. If this thread should be another tab, can a mod please move it? If not, thanks anways.

This thread is OK where it is

I was wondering if I should accept a position at Swan River, MB. I was offered a RN position as a new grad and am looking for an opinion as whether it would be worth it to move to Swan River from Toronto.

I know little about Swan River. All I know is it is 6 hours away from Winnipeg. A full time RN position seems tempting, along with all the grants you can get from the Manitoba Gov't for relocating and with working in rural areas. But positions are also available in Winnipeg, you can start part time (and still get full time hours), gain seniority, then if a full time position opens up you'll have better chances of getting it.

Goodluck!

There aren't many jobs open anywhere in Canada. Don't be fooled by Internet stats citing the nursing shortage. You might be able to find work in rural communities that are having difficulty recruiting nurses, but an employer will need to provide sponsorship.

Are you from Manitoba?

I work ER in Mb and can work as much as I want.

There is something like 100+ positions open in our region. Some terms some perms.
