CNO refuse to take CRNE.

I am a nurse in the philippines. I also have experience. Im also registered nurse in NEW York City. Before I move here in Canada, I send my credentials to CNO including endorsement of license from the US. I submitted my application April 2010. May 2012 my application is refuse due to 3 reason. 1. Because I don't have ontario nursing program. 2. Safe practice requirement.

I appeal my case to health professions. I have a teleconference with CNO regarding my eligibility to take the exam.

I've my assessment for 2 years and the result is refuse. Ive submitted all my employment history and also my license from the Philippine and USA. and still they denied my application. All I want is to take the CRNE to prove my credibility.

Can someone help me here !!!

    >> Is anybody here graduate from the philippines allowed by College of Nurses of Ontario to take the CRNE using your Philippine Nursing Education.?

It looks like CNO already told you the exact reasons why they are denying your eligibility for the CRNE, and it seems like you're not wanting to hear their reasons. To be licenced in Ontario, you have to abide by CNO's regulations; if they deem that your education isn't on par with the Ontario graduates' education, then you may need to take a refresher course. As for the safe practice requirement, contact CNO to see what you can do to remedy it.

Just because you have nursing education from another country and experience in the states doesn't mean all that will transfer over to Canada.

Also, did your English language proficiency meet their requirments? Your grammar is all over the place in your post.

You said there was three reasons but you only listed two. What was the third?

It really doesn't matter if you have a license in another country. You have to meet the requirements for here.

We cannot provide the assistance you seek here. The CNO sets the entry requirements for all Ontario nurses, so you need to speak directly with them regarding any appeals. Furthermore, based on the content of your post, you probably won't (or did not) meet the English requirement, which is one of the mandatory components for all IEN's. Ultimately, the CNO's first priority is public safety, not randomly granting nursing licenses to those who aren't meeting the standard.

    Hi iamdi!

Our BSN is not equivalent to the BSN in Ontario. However, CNO will give you options like bridging program or answering BET to meet their requirements.Try to go over the package they sent you, though,I know its a lot of papers, you have to understand the content.

I am now an RN in Ontario. I transferred my license here in Quebec, now I am working as a temporary RN (pending because I still need to pass french exam). Currently holding a Nurse Clinician position in a hospital. All my diplomas are from our country.

Just recently,I came across this thread and it perked my interest because I received my nursing training and education from the Philippines. And yes I am currently licenced in Ontario and working in downtown Toronto as an RN.

Your frustration regarding your refusal from the CNO is coming from the expectation that the education you received from the Philippines, your work experience and your USA licence when put together would be enough to comply with the entry requirements to practice nursing in Ontario. The CNO is a regulatory body. Safeguarding the public safety and interest is their primary concern. Forget about the USA and NCLEX .Read the CNO website by heart and understand the content. They will serve as your guide to practice nursing safely.

The process is long ,patience is needed and as an IEN we should be prepared to wait since we are the one who is requesting for the assessment . Indignation towards the CNO decision is a common reaction among IEN's especially that the nursing schools in the Philippines have propagated the notion that the nursing education is at par with the rest of the world. Do not get me wrong that I am ashamed of my training because I am not. I did not do any bridging program and I was allowed to take the CRNE but mine is a different story. There are certain intricacies that only the assessor from CNO will be able to discuss with the applicant.Build a relationship with the assessor assigned to you because she will be able to guide you in this process.

The road will not be easy for IEN's in getting their assessment done as well as being allowed to take the CRNE.The reality is at this time there are a lot of IEN's applying not just from the Philippines but from other countries as well. Talk to someone who has been there before and hopefully this person can provide some help.

I'm sorry to hear about your assessment result. I am an IEN, had my BScN degree in the Philippines and currently holding an RN license in Ontario. Did they gave you a Baccalaureate Equivalency Table to answer? Because I had my initial assessment Nov 2010 and got my eligibility to take the CRNE after 2 months of passing my BET. To sum it all, BET is the one that helps me to get my equivalency to a current degree in nursing in ontario (English is not my first language, I AM NOT GOOD IN SPEAKING IN ENGLISH).

As to the comment regarding your ENGLISH PROFICIENCY, ENGLISH PROFICIENCY is not a basis for you not to have your eligibility since this ONE requirement is just ONE of the SEVEN (Plus one juris exam in Jan2013) to get registered in the CNO.

Aim high my friend. Do the bridging program if you can to have your eligibility and become an RN. After all it will benefit you a lot, Hospitals in toronto and nearby areas looking for RNs who are educated here or somewhat had some completed courses in colleges or universities.
