Published

Hi everyone,I am in the same boat.RN,RMN, BSN with 17 years of experience from India & UK,moved to Canada , got licence as RN but no luck with job, it's so frustrating. Could anyone guide me what speciality course I should do to get a job in Mental health nursing in ON , Canada., please ...

Where are you living? The GTA? Mental health always seems to be hiring in my area. Try expanding your search and don't apply to just mental health, try ltc, home care ect. Having a year of Canadian experience will go a long wayBest if luck

Thanks a lot Daisy, I live in Brampton.. Which is your area ? I will apply there too.. I think u r right, I will have to start from LTC which I don't mind. Do you think nursing home experience of LTC will be valid ? Thanks

LTC has loads of geri-psych issues!!!

Specializes in Acute Care, Rehab, Palliative.

Have you tried Homewood in Guelph?

Although in sure I've given it away, I don't want to say where I work. I have a friend who lives in Brampton and she too could not find a mental health job, she now commutes an hour, but loves her job. I know people hired into mental health in Cambridge, Kitchener, stratford, london and at homewood like Lori said. Ltc most deffinaly counts, especially for getting into mental health. I have seen mental health specific home care jobs too, not sure what your role would be?

Specializes in geriatrics.

That's for sure, Fiona. Various dementias, BPD, depression, anxiety, schizophrenia. Mental health is a huge part of LTC nursing.

No, I haven't but I sure would .. Thanks tons !

I haven't worked there but I did a 12 week placement there when I was in school. It was awesome. The one thing that really impressed me was that many of the employees had been there for years ( some their entire careers) and they said they wouldn't want to work anywhere else. They really treated their employees well. I know they offer education opportunities for their employees. If you were looking to relocate Guelph is a really great city and the real estate is very reasonable. Let us know if you have any luck.I checked the website and they do have some job postings up.
