Worst visitors ever

Nurses Humor

Published

I once had a pt whose husband seriously asked me if would teach his wife to give bed baths to him. Of course I told him no. Tonite I found this top ten list of worst pt visitors and thought I would share. Feel free to add more.

10. The man who snuck in three cats to visit his asthmatic mother.

9. The visitor who ate all his father's food, then rang the nurse to say that the patient was still hungry and needed another tray.

8. The wife who asked you to take her stroked-out husband to the bathroom whenever SHE really was the one who had to go.

7. The son who emptied his mother's colostomy bag into the wastebasket.

6. The husband who fell asleep in the patient's bed while his wife was in the bathroom.

5. The wife who discontinued her husband's central line herself, because "John likes to sleep on his right side."

4. The 80 year-old daughter of the 98 year old man, who kept turning off her father's continuous gastric feeding because, "He never eats this much a home."

3. The children of one patient who insisted upon using their mother's portable IPPB machine as a scooter in the hallway.

2. The husband who kept sneaking in chocolates for his newly diagnosed diabetic wife. 1. The man who never actually visited his mother, but called twelve times every shift to criticize the nurses, the doctors, the food, and anything else that came to mind.

I was doing my charting at the nurse's station when a visitor walked up to ask a question. She motioned toward a vase of mostly-dead flowers sitting there and said "you know if you'd just give those flowers some fresh water they might last longer." Riiiiiiight! I'll get right on that after I finish my assessments, look up my meds, do my charting, go to the bathroom, check on my patients, give bed baths, pass meds, stand and deliver to my instructor, answer the q.5 minute call bell for that needy patient who can't seem to find anything else to do, check on that diet order, update my notes and clean up a code brown. Suuuuuuuure!

i have to say that some of these are hysterical!!! i have to say that the worst visitor i had was during my last senior rotation where i did an internship in L/D. The patient was pregnant but also had a bowel obstruction so bad that she almost perfed in which I felt horrible for her...but anyways she had to have an NG tube hooked up to wall suction. It was ordered to be on continuous so that they could drain as much as possible. the husband who was a former EMT in the ER decided to turn it to intermittent. i walked in and of course found the wife gaging and in a ton of pain...the husband then said to me...nobody in this damn hospital knows how to work a f***ing suction machine! of course i was too humiliated to have a smart come back...can you believe the nerve! i couldn't believe he actually thought he was trying to make his wife feel better...duh can't you see her gaging and screaming over there! can you imagine if she was in labor?? :trout:

God help us all....

He was flown out to a urology specialist within the hour....nearly two thirds of his member had to be amputated....

I am not sure with all his shortcomings just how close he came to losing his whole member.....he was after all "the brains in the family."

I am just shakin' my head....:smokin:

Methinks he got his brains chopped off.........

OMG That is funny!!!!!!:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Odds are if he had most of his member removed he is no longer the brains in his family.

the worst family i had ..oh gosh..this women. anyway her husband came in for a medicare stay and he was weak after his long hospital stay . he was doing therapy everyday and was just plum tuckered out at the end of the day. anyway his wife wanted him to be seen at the er because he was not walking yet....he had stood once at the hospital and according to her should be walking by now. she decided that she could not take him herself cause you know he cant walk yet... so from his room she calls 911 and tells them her husband will be dead within the hour and he needs to be seen right away. she further reports to the 911 operator that we are not tending to his needs and we are the cause of his "premature death"...so the ambulance ran lights a sirens to the facility in order to take this man across the street to the er..they were furious when they found out this man was being taken to the er because his wife did not feel he was progressing in his therapy fast enough.. he was seen then released but she had to take him home cause the facility refused to take him back..oh yeah she signed him out ama....
