When assessment skills go wrong

Nurses Humor

Right.

So today I was waddling out of work after being called out all night and a good chunk of yesterday and my coworkers, bless them, caught me by the elbow and reeled me back into the office to ask about this system issue and that piece of equipment.

But bit by the bit, the questions began to morph into various repetitive forms of the sentiment, "Are you okay? You don't look well." Including the highlight of one such yipped exclamation of and I quote, "Damn girl! You look like you just lost a fist fight with Ebola!".

And in spite of my reassurances, I soon found myself on the receiving end of a stethoscope bell and the palpating fingers of a concerned surgeon gingerly checking my lymph nodes in spite of my floundering.

The finding:

My makeup had worn off.

Apparently my natural appearance = someone about to leak blood from their eyes before collapsing in a liquefying, spasming froth.

Tip your waitresses. Good night!

P.S.

If anyone should need me, I will be in my bell tower. Or in the strangely watery depths beneath an opera house bellowing, "Sing my angel of music!".

Great post made me smile!

...And that is when you yell, "No, It can't possibly be so simple!"

You worked somewhere that required you to wear make-up? Was it in healthcare? That sounds unusual to me! I know that casinos sometimes require this of their cocktail waitresses and such, but I would be surprised if a health care institution required it. Very interesting!

I usually don't wear make-up to work - I reserve it for special occasions! :)

Women are lucky, if you're born ugly you can use makeup, wear different hairstyles, giant sunglasses, plunging necklines to distract from your butt / face / funky collarbone issue, and more to disguise it.

If a man is born ugly, he's doomed.

Did you miss the 90s and the 00s? Go metrosexual and solve that problem! :woot:

I'm guessing this wasn't in the US, right?

When my daughter was getting married I went to the expensive makeup counter and asked for help. They sat me down and did a totally unbelievable job. I mean, I looked wonderful! And of course I bought all of the stuff they used and I came home and my DH said, hesitantly, "Are you wearing....makeup?"

Alas, the wedding was a week later, and I had to do it myself. I tried consciously to use a very light hand with the stuff. In the pictures I bear a very strong resemblance to the last corpse you saw at the funeral parlor, except I was upright. Fortunately the mother of the groom looked worse. :)

before I usually wear make up because it was mandated by the management hut since I transferred institution I never wear make up. A big thanks for the mask XD

That's illegal.

That's illegal.

I'm sorry my English was inappropriate mandated is not right but I would say highly recommended my supervisor always remind me so I kinda think it was like mandated after all. but thanks anyway for reminding me it illegal indeed...
