What Is Your Most Gross, Yucky, Disgusting Nursing Horror Story?

Here is my most gross, yucky, disgusting nursing story! Nurses Humor Article

Updated:

I was working a night shift on a tele floor as a new Nurse.

We had this one poor old lady who was confused and was restrained as usual for her safety. She was our designated resident nightmare geri from hell, so she was placed near the Nurse's station.

So we are chilling out at the Nurse's station, chatting and trying to get through another night...

Suddenly, out of the corner of my eye, I see our lady in question standing in the dimly lit doorway of her room!

I instantly leap out and run to her. As I approach her, she appears to be falling towards me, so I meet her in a bear hug...my arms around her waste, and her arms around my shoulders.

As I catch the lady, I notice a very strong smell of feces, and I feel something warm on my hands, arms and shoulders...

My fellow heroes come in behind me, and as the lights are turned on, my worst fears are instantly realized.

Yes, I caught the poor old lady with a good old bear hung football catch, but I was also covered in the lady's feces.

As I look at her, she has feces smeared all over her arms and hands... (and even her face!)

And of course, now so did I! :D

i wonder if this is actually a true story, anywhere? There is a nurse at our hospital who swears up and down he took care of a woman who came to A&E with an infected stoma site and it was +ve for STDs because the husband had been "using" it. I think this story floats around every hospital! I refuse to believe it's true because it's just TOO gross! (please, nobody shatter my illusion!)

I am a nursing student and my clinical instructor told me about an RN at the hospital that has evidently had something published talking about the use of a stoma for this very reason. It sounded as though she encouraged it as a means of exercising their sexuality between a couple.

I have 3 stories that make me question my sanity for working as a cna.

Story #1 involves a very large patient in her early 50s. Aside from being obese

and very lazy, there is nothing wrong with her. She can transfer herself to and

from her bed and wc, but refuses to use the toilet or bedside commode. She

only wanted female cnas so I was assigned to her quite often. I had a feeling

she was into women, but she confirmed my suspician. As I was doing pericare:barf02:

she started moaning and said, "You can rub harder and go deeper in there". YUCK

Story #2 invoves me helping a cna do postmortem care on a big man. When

we rolled him on his side, he urinated on my arm. I never thought I would ever

have a dead man pee on me.:grn:

Story #3 is by far the grossest. I was watching another cna's patient so she

could go to lunch. 2 of her patients were known fall risks, so I went to check on

them. I knew something bad happened when I was greeted with the smell of BM

at the door. I turned on the light to find Mr. "Brown" had painted himself with his

poop. He smeared it all over his arms, chest and face. It was dried on and smelled

like he smelled old. I turned around and got my charge nurse. She took one look

and stormed towards the breakroom. She told the patient's cna,"when was the

last time you checked on Mr.Brown?" The cna said "5 minutes before I went to

lunch" The nurse said "Really? Well he is covered in his own bm. Didn't you

think you should clean him up b4 you go to lunch?" The cna,( who is less than

good) replied, "Well he wanted to play in it so I thought I should let him finish

b4 I cleaned him". :nono: Unreal! :banghead:

I can honestly say, in all my years as a nurse, I have never been peed on by a dead man......

I can't stop giggling about that, sorry! But, at least you know he didn't do it on purpose; THAT might have been worse!

posts like that one are why i'm not encouraged to read allnurses in bed! makes the bed shake too much when i laugh this hard.:lol2::yeah::D

Not gross, but disturbing.

Work on a skilled nursing floor as a CNA. Patient is a chronic, and i mean DEDICATED CHRONIC, masturbator. Sits on the edge of the bed, in the w/c, where ever. Pants around his feet, having a grand ol time. Hours a day, and no end in sight. Knock, walk in, do your thing (poor nurses had to do wound care on his legs), and once your on the far side of the curtain, he's back at it. It got worse once he had a roomie we had to feed. That was a challange to ignore. And even more vocal once he had a cath put in that he couldn't figure out how to do it while it was in. And it was Rx that we provided jelly for him.

EEUUUUEEEUUUUUUWWWW! :nono::no::barf02:

Being peed on by a dead man. Never would have imagined.

The CNA letting a man play in his poo is crazy! If she had been proactive in cleaning him up, it would have been much easier to clean him up. What was she thinking????:crying2:

She wasn't thinking. Typically, when this patient is sleeping, we don't wake

him. He is a combative geri-psych patient. However, he always wakes b4 2am

and we all know it. The lazy cna just simply doesn't care. Maybe next time

she'll think twice b4 leaving a poopie patient.

So you made HER clean it up?:yeah:

But of course. This happened bcuz of her

neglect. I just wish he would've painted her with his poo too!

On my 1st day alone after orientation as a new CNA on a med/surg floor I was feeling pretty confident and looking forward to the day. However, things starting going downhill fast. I had 7 pts, 3 of which needed complete assistance to eat. Bed pans, accu checks, baths, etc. After running around and getting everything done I went to start checking on everyone. Well, as soon as I entered this one room (I will call him Mr.Brown - not his real name), I immediatly knew it was going to be a massive "Code Brown". Everyone else was busy, so I was on my own to get this pt cleaned up. I went and gathered all my supplies and even hid a mask in my scrub pocket to take into the battlefield.

The pt had been given ativan the night before and was still sort of out of it, but was still "playing" down there in all the liquidy, chunky mess while seemingly sleeping at the same time. At this point, being my 1st day alone, I didn't think I would make it through. I starting planning my escape from the smelly room and out of the hospital never to look back. I decided to tough it out since I really liked the job and I am hoping they hire me as a RN after school.

Anyways....

I get started by removing the soiled gown from Mr.Brown and removing one side of the linens. I start cleaning him up as best I could without much help from him. As soon as I roll him over I see how much poop there really is. It could have easily been 2 liters or more worth of the brown stuff. It was unlike anything I ever smelled before and the mask just didn't help. It was runny and chunky all at the same time. It was everywhere. It was in his bellybutton, up his back and even behind his knees. So here I am getting him all cleaned up while his hands are still down there getting dirty as well. I figured I would just have to clean them last. Well, of course as I get one side clean he beings to urinate. Everywhere. It was so much urine I was sure he hadn't voided in a week. I had to run into the bathroom and grab his urinal and try and catch what was still coming out. A mixture of runny poop and hot urine started running over the side of the bed. So here I am about to loose it. I was so over it at this point, but I managed to finish the job and have Mr.Brown back up in bed with clean linens and a clean gown....sleeping peacefully. I felt pretty proud of myself. Since then everything has seemed a lot easier!

I saw Mr.Brown as few days later as he was being discharged. With no ativan in him, he was alert and oriented with a big smile on his face and he wanted to give me a hug before he left. :)

I felt like I smelled like Mr.Brown's poop for a week. I was tempted to shower with bleach when I got home that night. I'm sure that won't be the last time that happens either. At least I will be prepared!
