Something For Nurses To Sing About!

This is a song I wrote for all nurses to sing or recite to the tune of "Oh Where Oh Where Has My Little Dog Gone!" I hope you enjoy it. Feel free to share it with other nurses you know:

Oh where oh where has my little nurse gone
Oh where oh where could she be?
She promised to bathe me, and bring me some food.
Oh where oh where could she be?

Oh where oh where has my little nurse gone
Oh where oh where could she be?
I've fallen out of bed, and I can't get up!
Oh where oh where could she be?

Oh when oh when will my nurse return
Oh when oh when will that be?
I've crawled to the door, now I'm stuck on the floor
Oh when oh when will she see?

The night nurse comes in and she calls out to me,
But I've crawled to the potty to pee.
I can't yell out to say "I'm in here,"
cause now I'm as hoarse as can be.

The Dayshift arrived to begin their chores,
And I haven't been seen, no not once!
I want to go home cause I feel all alone;
I'm starting to feel like a dunce!

Oh what oh what is taking my nurse so long,
Oh what oh what could it be?
I'm checking out of my room in an hour
So where oh where could she be?

My neighbor arrived to take me home,
I rang for my nurse to come see.
Instead of the nurse, an aide arrived
With a wheelchair in tow for me.

I ranted and raved that I'd paid and I paid
For my nurse to take care of poor me.
"Hallelujah," I heard someone shout as I passed,
For the nurse was so thrilled it was me.

"Farewell, my dear patient," she said to my face,
"I'm glad that you are all well,"
"Cause you acted like you were the only patient I had,
When each day you laid on that bell!"
*************THE END!!!

Renee, this is cute, but sad also. You should add a verse about how overworked and shortstaffed the nurses are. Every single nurse I have ever met wishes for more time to spend with his/her patients. Unfortunately, the pt. in your song seems unaware of this.

Hi Caroline RN!

You are so right in everything you say! I always wanted more time to spend with my patients, instead it always felt like I was rushing them, rushing myself. So sad indeed!

Hey, why don't you write a verse for my song. Meanwhile, I will see what I can come up with and share it here when I do. Well, I'm going nite-nite now. Tired as can be. Have a good night yourself! Peace to you!

Default I think......
I think the song is cute and ALSO printed on the humor page. Let's not turn it into a point of activism. If we can't laugh at ourselves, who can we laugh at?

PS, I am not laughing at the nursing shortage, I am laughing at the song.

"Oh where, oh where has my D.O.N. gone,
Oh where, oh where can she be?
The ER's a flooding, the nurses all drowned,
Oh where, oh where can she be?

Hello debbyed!

Love your rhyme regarding D.O.N.'s! If you can't beat 'em, join 'em, by gosh! LOL!!! Thanks for your reply! I love it! It's all in a day's song, isn't it! Or, should I say it is all in a shift's work? Hope you are enjoying your weekend! Be safe!
