Poor RTguy!

Updated Jul 10, 2007 at 05:36 AM by dorie43rn

This just happened the other day, and I haven't laughed so hard in a long time. I was giving my patient her medication through her Dobhoff, and was meeting a little resistance. In the mean time, The RT guy came on shift and was in my patients room, directly across from me, checking vent settings. Well, to unstick the Dobhoff, I gave it one good push, and it burst all over the RTguy! He had red, sticky fluid running down his face. He said, "Please, Please just tell me it isn't body fluid!" When I assured him it wasn't, we both had a good laugh. He had to take a mini bath in the sink. Now every time I see him, I will have to smile.

Thats funny... I have accidentally shot myself trying to flush NG tubes, corpaks, etc.

One time I was having a really really bad night... I got tripled in the ICU with 3 very busy patients and a LPN that had never worked in our unit before and she looked like she was about to kill me for giving her the confused post-op patient that needed constant supervision (she was the only stable patient I had).... well I walked into my one patients room and he was a complete mess so I went ahead and gave him a bath and changed out all his linens. Well, shortly after I got done with the bath he had meds due and when I went to push potassium (the orange sticky liquid kind) It slipped out and went all over my nice clean patient and sheets. I was so frustrated by that point that I was almost in tears. Now I look back on it I can laugh because I can only imagine what the other nurses were thinking when I was gone in his room for so long and I kept having to come out for more linens.
