Re: "No, I am not pregnant"
Oy, I made that mistake once.
I was working in the ED and a lady had brought her husband in for something. I was taking down the info and noticed her maternity dress (which it apparently wasn't) and asked her with all happy sincerity "So, when is your baby due?". The look that she gave me... ooooohhh. It was like she smelled something bad, and told me that she was not pregnant.
I swear she was wearing a maternity dress and looked ready to deliver. So feeling somewhat small, I carried on with what I was doing, listening to the husband just guffawing down the hall. I couldn't wait for them to leave. I found out later that she had delivered twins about 8 months prior. But on that day, she looked to be at 38-40 weeks. No foolin'.
And I thought I was doing a nice thing!
