night vision- do your eyes play tricks on you?

I was driving home after a 3-11 shift. I saw a homeless man picking through the dumpsters in an over-sized fur coat. I felt pity for him and pulled into the parking lot to offer him my spare change.
As I approached the dumpster, he dropped down and turned to face me.
To my amazement, it was not a man, but a large black bear.
I screamed, and honked my little non-intimidating little horn.
He growled and slammed his massive paws onto the mortar.
I quickly sped out of the parking lot and did not look back.

BWAAA HAAA HAAA! I can just see this. I bet your heart was going pitter patter!

I remember the first time I saw a moose in Upper Michigan. It was dusk and I was driving home along a deserted stretch. When I went around a corner, all of a sudden on the edge of the road by my lane was this huge, tall dark thing. It was so big that the only thought that went through my mind was "A MONSTER!!!" I'll never forget that feeling. I was just shaking. And it was not even close! You can call me "the careful chicken."

I was living in Spokane and getting ready for an AM shift. I let my dogs outside, and they started going nuts barking! I thought they had a coon or something treed -- went inside to get my glasses and saw a little brown bear up a telephone pole. And this was in the middle of the city!

thanks for all your amusing tales. I am glad nobody was injured during one of their night vision (the absence there of) encounters. -Angela

Yikes! That would have skeeered me good.

I often wake up in the night and think I'm seeing spiderwebs floating above me. It freaks me out so I turn the light on and they're gone. Doesn't make dh very happy but hey, I have to put up with his snoring so he can put up with my spider visions.
