A little OB Humor

  1. 11
FYI, I am actually in OB currently and in my final semester in my BSN program.

I am volunteering in the ER and I know a tech is going to nursing school, but I don't know when she will graduate. So, I sit down and ask her how far along she is. I get this horrified look when another RN chimes in and said you ask most women that question and they will think something else.

...that is funny you do get better at asking questions carefully!

Oh dear! At least you were asking legitimately! As Brian Regan (comedian) would say regarding women who MIGHT be pregnant, "I think the rule about that is, 'Don't guess at that EVER, EVER, EVER, EVER, EVER...'"

At least you could explain that one! I was told (shows how you should never follow rumors) that a certain supervisor on my floor was pregnant. She is a heavyset nurse. I go and tell her congrats and ask when she is due, and when she said she's not pregnant I just wanted the floor to swallow me up. I have to work with this person! Ugh! I never every believe rumors even if they look 9 months pregnant, unless they tell me themselves.

Right. Unless I actually see a baby coming out of a woman I NEVER assume or guess that she is pregant. Been there, done that, ug.
When I was 20 years old a work friend invided me to a baby shower. Now he was a work buddy of mine, I had never met his wife. I was vaguly aware that they were expecting a baby soon. I have no idea why I was invited but I called my mom and asked what an appropiate gift would be then went strait out and got it.
When I arrived at the shower I was expecting to find a pregant woman, instead when my buddy introduced me to his wife she was holding what looked like a new born baby. What did I know? I had never been associated in any way with a baby shower before.
In an attempt the pay his wife a compliment I said, "Wow, you have already lost ALMOST all the baby weight!
She looked at me unsmiling and said:
    "Thanks, he is adopted".
Curiously I was never invited back to their house for anything. That was the LAST time I ever accepted an invitation to a baby shower.
