Linda Carter, Student Nurse

Nurses Humor

Published

In my Internet travels I came across these vintage comic books from the fifties about "Linda Carter, Student Nurse" and all of the "warmth, drama and romance of a nurse in a big city hospital".

Old romance-comics are funny enough, but the nursing student angle of these makes them all the more funny. Maybe I just have a weird sense of humor.

Yeah, because there's nobody you need more on an "emergency call" than a couple student nurses. Also: Kudos to Linda for taking the time during a code-emergency to put on her cape-thingie. No proper nurse ventures outdoors capeless.

Thanks for sharing these. I am not familar with the Linda Carter series. (I wonder if I could buy them somewhere ....)

When I was a senior in nursing school (many years ago), some of us got a kick out of reading "Cherry Ames: Student Nurse." One of the lines from that book became somewhat of a motto for me. Cherry learned quickly that ...

"A nurse will never stand if she can sit, and never sit if she can lie down."

I collect vintage comics from the fifties and sixties, and I never heard of this series either. Unfortunately, books like these are rare and super-expensive.

I've read a number of "Mary Robbins, R.N." romance comics in cheap reprint format. They're a hoot. Horrible dialogue. The nurses are constantly thinking gems like "Dr Henry wouldn't need a stethoscope to hear the throbbing of my heart" or "Bill has a temperature of 102! Is it a fever, or is it.... love?"

I've never seen those, they are a hoot!

I've never heard of Mary Robbins RN either.

I remember reading Sue Barton, student nurse: there are a whole series of Sue Barton books.

Recently bought a reproduction set of Cherry Ames books, found them to be very boring, read them and then gave them away.

Would rather read the Nancy Drew and Dana girls books from the '30's and '40's.

Do you have any Katy Keene comics, with the paper dolls?

I wonder if it's.... heart surgery?

Mulan, I don't own any Katy Keene comics, but I have heard of them.

I hear finding one with the paper dolls still in them is like finding a unicorn. Those blasted little girls had a nasty habit of cutting them out!
