TO Dream the Impossible Dream

by gwenith

I keep reading about how many nurses are scared of losing their license. This has come about, for the most part, because of our litigious society where lawyers will smear the reputations of good people to win a case.

So if you had a magic wand or a genie in a bottle and could make one profession such as lawyers, trade places with nurses who would you pick and what would you make them do??

Yes the patient acuity sayas he only needs 1 hour of care a day then why have I just spent 45 minutes explaining each and every tablet to him, spent 20 minutes breaking up a fight among his relatives answered his call light 15 times and stopped him reprograming his own IV pump twice and answered teh phone 25 times speaking to the relatives who are now not speaking to the relatives who were fighting with the other relatives - oh my aching head!!!

I'd like our "modern matron" (or whatever she likes to call herself), to trade places with me and experience two patients going off at the same time when on her own and then equate that to a "really difficult meeting." Bint

(BTW, yes she DID equate a "difficult meeting" to two people nearly dying on me, when I was the only qualified staff member on)
