Drawing blood

I had to draw blood on a 400 pound man. Needless to say, his arms were huge and, being a new nurse, I was really nervous because it is usually harder to find veins on larger people. I really stuck my foot in my mouth when I went into the room and said "Are you hard?" There was a few seconds pause before I realized what I had said and then added, "to get?"
