Help with ordering a "Sweeping Second Hand" Watch from Allheart.com

by Sl1011

I'm starting nursing school in january, and they require that we get a Watch with a sweeping second hand. I'm already starting to order other things from allheart.com ( the prices seem good ). I was trying to find a watch with a sweeping hand on there, but it doesn't specify that. And I don't' want to get the wrong kind of watch. Anyone know? Thanks

Isn't a sweeping second hand just another name for a watch with a second hand ? ! ? !

That's what I thought at first, but aren't there watches out there where the second hand doesn't tick? It's just a continual second hand that "sweeps" across the watch. I don't know, that's what I was thinking though.

I image any watch with a second hand will be OK. You'll need that when counting respirations and such.

yeah - it would seem unreasonable to me that you couldn't just get any watch with a second hand. Someone once told me that it's not very common to find the "sweeping" second hand outside of very high end watches. I never explored this statement further. Besides... 95% of all watches and clocks you see will have a ticking second hand.

You're right, there are watches where the second hand smoothly glides by instead of ticking, but I can't see how that could be of increased help in taking a pulse.

If your school requires it though, you probably ought to get one, but I had trouble finding one on a google search that wasn't really expensive. I did see one at Nurses Station for $59.95 - kind of silly looking, but here's the link. http://www.nursesdirect.com/product.html?t_q=RJ771

I called the school and left a message for them to call me back. I'm hoping they just mean any watch with a second hand, because those sweeping second hand watches are too expensive and they are hard to find.

Don't mean to be offensive but I checked that link and I don't think you should go for a watch with all that other stuff in it. Just a regular watch with a second hand. Like this one from Allheart

Or possibly this one with the advantage that it's gel and you can just wipe it clean with EtOH wipes like I do. Plus this one has 24-hour time on it.

Thanks!! I'm still waiting to hear back from the school, and if they say it's just a second hand they need then I'm getting the gel one from Allheart.com. I like those ... the white one is pretty, but I'm guessing the gel ones will be easier to clean.

I found this one on Kohl's website. I think it is a decent looking watch at a decent price.
