Bag for Books

Okay so I'm extremely excited to start my second quarter of nursing school. However I have quite a heavy load with quite heavy books. I really do not want to resort to a "rolley backpack" so I was wondering where everyone else got their bags that are stylish yet handle the 20# books?

Thanks!

my friend is in dental hygiene school and they are required to tote around all their books. she has a super cute scrap booking rolly bag from michaels that is red and orange and I just love it! It's not nerdy or cliche rolly backpacky. And hopefully youll come to find that you dont need to bring those books around every day anyways. good luck

You might want to re-consider the rolly back pack thing - your shoulders will be ever so grateful! I found a heavy, sturdy, canvas type beach bag on clearance a couple of summers ago and it was nice and roomy - and heavy! I swore I'd never do that again!

I have 3 backpacks. I use one for my laptop and the other 2 for my books. I keep them in my truck at all times as I usually study away from home and it makes things a little neater. There is no sense for me to just have one as there are too many books period.

i use a jansport book bag & it has worked out fine with carting around a book, spiral notebook, binder, and laptop. i hate those rolling backpack things. also, are you sure you're going to have to cart around a lot of books all the time? you might end up not needing to.

I never thought I'd resort to a rolling b-pack either but my back just couldn't take it anymore....give in and you'll be thankful in the long run

Maybe this will make me sound old...but what's wrong with a rolling backpack? What looks more ridiculous, someone effortlessly rolling their bag, or a student bent forward under the strain of a huge backpack and looking like a sherpa?

My backpack has wheels that light up...yes, it's goofy but it makes me smile and my back and shoulders don't hurt and I can hightail it across campus if I need to.

Ummm...let me start by saying I LOVE my rollybag....I love the fact it carried all my books with no problems....I love EVEN MORE that we have planned a bonfire postgraduation to burn the suckers....LOL

Just so ya know, if this is a "worried about what I look like wheeling around a bag" thing.

When we started 2 years ago....we all had our hair up nice, makeup on, clothes pressed daily, shoes polished, an hour early, best foot forward, smiling and happy and gay......

2 years later......

No Makeup, hair shoved in makeshift ponytail, clothes tossed in dryer day of to "press them", shoes are on, 5 minutes early, both feet moving forward and EXCITED graduation is around the corner....

MORAL...... do what you gotta do to make your life (and back) last......

ENJOY SCHOOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I can't wait to justify using a rolley bag. I've been taking one class (plus one online) for so long that I couldn't justify it. But, I use my rolley bag when I go traveling. It's great (and bright purple!).

An alternative would be to get a real hiking style backpack. Using a waist strap will alleviate a lot of stress on your back and shoulders.
This bag seems to have good reviews and isn't too expensive, but I'd still recommend a rolley bag.

I had three solutions. First I streamlined the amount of books I needed to carry by getting my resource type books and NCLEX study/question books on PDA. This also has the added benefits of having them at the patient bedside and links between the resources. I can also study while waiting in line, at the doctors office, for my son to get out of school, etc.
Also I purchased a small rolling suitcase rather than a rolling backpack because there was a great deal more room. If it is still in good shape when I am finished with school then I guess I will need to pack it for a much deserved trip!
The extremely large text books for fundamentals and med/surg I took to Kinkos, had the bindings cut off, holes punched and placed them in a three ring binder or two. Then I could pull out invidual units/chapters and put them in a notebook with my notes and other study materials making them extremely prtable for studying at work or on the go.
