I graduated nursing school 8 yrs ago and I just passed my boards...Should I put on my resume when I graduated? And will some jobs hold that against me?

I'm not sure I understand. You took 8 years in between school and passing the boards? So none of your experience is new? If you don't put that on your resume it's lying by omission.

I would suggest you put down school name, degree, date of graduation. Then on line 2 put RN in State of X, No. 1234566. Now all this reads is that you graduated and most likely have had your license for that long. and If they do not ask directly when did you get license you don't bring it up. Omitting your graduation date would raise a redflag as in hey when did she graduate. If employer is interested how you spent your time post graduation they can calll you in to talk about it. Think on how and what you will say to answer that questoin because it will be asked. Good luck! If you can get to the application state after interview ok thats when you detail all of the dates exactly. Resume's sole purpose is to get you the interview so spin it however you want just keep it true as it has to be strong enough to pass a background check and good luck.

Don't disclose it in the interview, but HR will probably check that anyway...and it may or may not be noticed by a non-nursing professional in HR.

I 100% disagree with CapCodMermaid...that isn't lying by ommission and here is why.

Your resume will show when you graduated and the BON website will show the date your license was initially issued. Public information is not "lying by omission".

You are NOT REQUIRED to put dates of graduation on a resume folks...many older applicants do this for jobs as to not give away their age. However, most hospital job applications will ask the dates that you went to such-and-such college.

Every hospital I know asks for transcripts from your school....the dates helps them get the correct information, especially if it's been a long time and your name has changed due to a marriage.

Don't volunteer information that you don't have to. When they ask how long have you been a nurse....THAT IS WHEN YOU MENTION IT, but you don't volunteer unncessarily.

However, be ready to explain it, if asked.

I do the hiring for my facility. I would question the character if someone who wasn't truthful on a resume. Background checks are expensive. We only do them if we are going to offer the job. And, I've never been asked for a transcript from school...even when I was a new grad.
