Nurses Job Hunt

Published

Hi there! I have a solid 4 years experience as an ER Staff Nurse in the Philippines and I arrived here in the US a year ago. So I started processing my papers right away and started reviewing for my CGFNS qualifying exam, IELTS and NCLEX. Thank God I passed all my exams!

I received my RN license a month ago and started looking for a job in several hospitals and nursing homes. Until now no facility or hospital called me for an interview yet. I believe my resume stands out because I am an RN, BSN with ACLS, PALS, BLS and IV Therapy Certificates. I am so worried because my certificates might expire before I can finally sit down for an interview.

Can you please give me some advice in getting my first job here in the US (Pennsylvania). Am I missing some steps? Do I need to take the CEN exam? Or do I need to apply for an internship (if there is any) as I am planning to join the ENA (Emergency Nurses Association).

Specializes in Trauma, Orthopedics.

Where in PA are you looking? I know the Philadelphia area is incredibly saturated and not enough jobs for the people that already live and went to school here. You may need to branch out, depending on where you're looking.

I am looking at Allentown, Bethlehem and Easton area. One HR told me, they can't hire me because hospitals in the Philippines are "small" compared here in PA.
