New Grad RN with no job and HUGE dilemma

This is my first post on allnurses.com and hope everyone is well!:) I have a dilemma and not sure what to do so figured you guys might be able to help me (as most of you are more experienced)?

Here goes: I used to work at a hospital and quit due to nursing school. Now, I am a new grad RN (sept 2011) with no job and it has been 1-2 months searching for one. I was wondering if it would be smart to ask if I could rejoin the old job because

1) it would be a job! its pharm tech

2) and I would have the chance to internal transfer when there's a chance (I am considered external candidate at the moment)

I figured the worst thing that can happen is that I do get rehired and then somehow immediately get a job as an RN... that would make me look bad, right? My ex boss knows I am an RN searching for a job and he is also my reference. I left the job in very good terms. What would you do??? I am just afraid/stressed for the worst (that I would have to leave early into the rehire, therefore making me look bad and that I "used" them and that would ruin my reference). But on the other hand, I am an unemployed new grad RN. :crying2:

Your old boss knows the risk he's taking when rehiring you. I think if he's willing to take that risk then you should go for it. I mean, it's a job - why be unemployed if you don't have to be? However I do think you should give two weeks notice as appropriate if a new job comes around. Do not forget: you are providing your old boss a valuable service because he will have a good employee without having to train them. So there are benefits for both parties.

Agreed: your old boss knows the deal, so take the job and don't feel guilty.

Besides, it's probably going to take a lot longer than you think to get a new grad job, even as an internal candidate. Better you start making some money to pay the bills while you continue searching and networking.

It can't hurt to ask. It certainly will give you an edge over people applying blind if your old boss is willing to take you back.

I will be emailing him asap and will let you guys know... for all I know, there might not even be a position... (which actually wasn't the worst thing I was worried about - like I mentioned above)

BUT I am liking the "benefits for both parties" thing!

What on earth are you waiting for?

Call your old boss, & explain the situation. Be up front re it all - lying doesn't get you anywhere.

I honestly don't see what your dilemma is - you are worrying about nothing really. People come and go in jobs all the time, it's part of life.

If you haven't rung them by the time you stop reading this post, then there's not much point asking for advice.

Get proactive and get busy TODAY.
