New CNA Job Hunt Help!

Nurses Job Hunt

Published

Hello!

I completed a CNA program in Illinois at the end of July 2014. I took the state exam August 15th and am still awaiting the results. I am starting to apply for jobs already. Anyone with any advice or answers to my question in the field, please respond!

I really want a job at a hospital for several reasons. I have no experience as a CNA (I have been a nanny for 5 years and am also almost done with my Bachelor's in psych). Here are my questions:

--Does anyone have ANY tips/advice on how to get a job in a hospital?

(CNA/Patient Care Tech)

--I do NOT want to work in a nursing home but do you think I have to in order to get experience first before a hospital will hire me?

*Fellow CNA's or nurses: please feel free to respond with your experience in job hunting!

I just joined allnurses and am hoping to get some advice from you guys!

ahh the coveted CNA Hospital job.

Hard fact number 1 Many of these jobs go to nursing students. They want a CNA job in a hospital praying that when they are done with schooling it is a foot into the door to land that nursing job. So if you are a CNA not in nursing school chances are slimmer for you because they get snatched up very quickly.

Fact 2 those that know people working in the hospital also will have someone to look out for them and bring their name up to those needing the CNA. If you don't have connections that can be another strike against you.

FAct 3 MAny many people are going for these jobs... you can probably have over 200 apps for one CNA position in a hospital.

If you are having trouble landing that hospital job and are not intrested in LTC there are other places you can find to be a CNA. Home Care, Hospice, retirment Homes, Homes and Hospitals for VETS, Homes for the disabled, Rehab just to name a few.

If you get a job and work as a CNA it is a positive Plus for you to have on your resume and help land a hospital job someday. I am not saying to give up on trying to land that hospital job. Keep trying, but in the meantime try working somewhere else. You may be plesently surprised you may find somewhere else that you love working at, and you won't even want the hospital.
