Let's help with resumes, cover letters, tips, etc... Most of us have the same story. New Grad RN, applied too many positions (me= 24), no call backs or received rejection emails. Well what to do? What's wrong with my resume, cover letter? Should I add or put something in it?

Lets help each other out.

1. Share tips on what a good resume, cover letter should have.

2. Possibly share your resume, cover letter

3. Share any ideas on the best way to land a job.

4. Describe your interview you had today.

5. Interview Tips (etc. business causal, hair up or down)

I would give a tip had I had a successful resume or cover letter, call back, but I do not.

But I will encourage everyone to stay positive and remember why you became a nurse when times become difficult. Stay motivated. Yes you chose the right career. Keep applying. Go to career fairs. At a career fair they can see your personality. Stay Optimistic.

* I have a few questions if you guys want to answer.

* Would you explain an employment gap in the cover letter or leave it off?

* Was it hard for any of you to land a job without previous health care experience before becoming a nurse?

The most vital suggestions I have is to cast your net wide, have a recruiter and a career fair help you with a résumé; as well as look into the past threads here on AN in terms of cover letters and resumes; a few of these posts were started by nurses who are on hiring committees.

A new grad résumé with no previous wok experience can have at least volunteering or school activities.

Work gaps are best explained during interviews.

I had previous nursing experience and it still took me 8 months to START a new grad position; that was due to the hospital's hiring process.

Once a recruiter told me how to formulate my résumé, I kept tweaking it until I had an interview. I don't always use a cover letter; however a good solid résumé explains experiences in clinicals or experiences related to nursing or previous experience as a nurse, and short term goals in terms of professional development and strengths.
