CHOC Children's RN Residency February 2015

Nurses Job Hunt

Hello New Grads! :D

Just wanted to start a tread for CHOC's RN Residency for Feb 2015! I'm was so excited to hear that they are holding a Winter Residency. I applied to the Medical Unit and am anxiously waiting to hear any news! The application is still open for those of you who have not yet applied. I have heard there are only 12 openings. Good luck everyone!!

Any tips on what types of questions are asked during an interview at CHOC? Whatever advice on how to prepare would be greatly appreciated.

I applied to the Hem/Onc and received a call for interviewing. Its on the 9th of December. Been waiting a year for a permanent acute care job and this is my dream job! I'm hoping it all goes well and I finally get to start in a career I have been patiently waiting for! Best of luck to all who applied!

Katomps, if you don't mind me asking how are you preparing for your interview? I have an interview on 12/10 for the PICU and have never been more nervous in my life. Best of luck to you!

Has anyone heard anything from Medical? Last I heard was that the manager had not made calls yet (I heard this the day before Thanksgiving), but I was just wondering if anyone has heard anything since then?

I am preparing through behavioral questions and basic interview questions. Also I would prepare what you would say when they ask you why PICU?

Thank you for your reply. Good call on the unit specific question. Good luck next week!

Thank you! I am so nervous, its my dream job and I don't want to mess it up! I had gotten an offer for another hospital out of state and they want me to tell them the beginning of next week what I decide! I hope the unit chooses quickly so I can give them an answer because I don't want to go longer without a RN job!

That's so exciting, best of luck. I know how u feel I've wanted to work at CHOC for as long as I can remember.

They are making their decisions for hem/onc by Friday. Interviewing people all day today! Idk how many they are taking tho

How did your interview go? Did you have examples of projects u did in school?

Do u have any tips?

There were 7 people interviewing me. scary enough haha and they each asked a question on a sheet in front of them and graded my responses 1-3 (I peeked at the girls paper next to me haha) and they asked a lot about who I am, why CHOC and ped onc?, dealt with a stressful time, deal with difficult patient/family/ doctor? And that was about it. It only lasted 30 min. Kind of crazy how fast it went but I was so nervous so I'm hoping they saw past it.

I will keep my fingers crossed for you. So scary, hope u get it.
