I researched this for my practicum project last year,
Chlorhexidine Skin Antisepsis has been proven to provide better skin antisepsis than Betadine and other antiseptic agents. Use back-and-forth friction scrub for 30 seconds and allow to dry completely. 80% of resident and transient skin flora are found in the first 5 epidermal layers of skin, and there is evidence to support the use of sufficient friction to reach into the cracks and fissures of the skin, while no evidence supports the use of the traditional concentric prepping (AACN, 2005).
