Salary

Just wondering what the average salary is for nursing faculty. I'm a BSN teaching in an LVN program. I've got 11 years experience. Starting salary at my program is 55K. Does that sound right? Or too low?

Really depends on your geographic area and experience. In my state the vocational/technical schools pay differently than the colleges. And the community college pays differently than the 4-year schools.

In my area of the country, that is high if it is only a 9-month contract ... but about right if it is a 12-month contract.

It's hard to say, given the amount of variation by geographic area and type of school. I teach at the only academic university hospital in our state, and my salary is higher than those of the other private universities with 4-year nursing schools as well as the 2-year programs.

My suggestion is that you interview at multiple places to see what they offer you.

Wow....if that's a 9-month contract that would be considered high (for starting) in my area.

Apparantly, I'm doing mission work; I am in Appalachia, after all. I have an MSN in nursing education and I'm a CNE teaching in an ADN program. I make 40 K (with benefits, of course) on a 9-month contract. I have >14 years teaching experience. I do love the flexibility of my job, and the time off (Christmas and summers)!

Where I am from a 9-month contract starts at 37,500/year in a BSN program for an MSN. Years of experience mean nothing.

Yup, BIG BUCKS

I teach at a 4 year university and with a MSN teaching undergraduate I make 40,500. I thought that was really low, however, for the actual time I teach, I make more per hour than bedside nursing with less headaches!! Plus summers and Christmas off!!
