How to become a nurse educator

by gdubb82

Hello,

I was wondering if any nurse educator can comment on the following:

I have a BS in Biology and a MEd in Educational Administration. I am currently applying to nursing school to obtain my BSN. In order for me to become a nurse educator either at a nursing school or in a hospital setting what additional education would I need to persue?

Thank you

Most universities require a PhD for classroom, masters (in Nursing Education) for BSN clinicals. ADN programs need masters (MSN) in classroom, BSN for clinicals, or to be working on the degree and plan to complete within 5 years.

Hospitals can set any qualifications they want on staff/nurse education postitions, I'd think your previous masters in education would stand you in good stead.

I just finished my MSN in Nursing Education, and all of my courses were nursing related, especially the education ones (how to teach clinicals, set up nursing curriculum, etc.).
