Educators paid by the hour or credit hour?

Hey fellow educators,

As I mentioned before, I accepted a position to help rebuild and retain a successful practical nursing program (last program was closed to due low pass board rates) Well, my director has proven to me to be a very good boss and does not micro-manage. However, the co-owners of the college think that my position is a 9a-5p (monday thru friday) job because their idea of full time faculty is 40 hrs a week. I do have a limited number of teaching experience, however, at my other job, we were paid by classes or credit hours (Full time faculty had to teach so many classes and hold so many office hours and part time faculty were paid by actual credit hours taught)

So my question is, do any of you actually have to be in "the office" 40 hours a week or is it "you teach this many classes, hold office hours"
