Dimensional Analysis Books or Worksheets

by MedSurgeMess Platinum Member

I am a fairly new clinical instructor (adjunct faculty), and was told I need to get a hold of some "med math" problems to have my students work on in post conference....I went to amazon.com, but by golly, some of those books are VERY high dollar--like everyone else, I'm on a very limited budget right now--so I am wondering if anyone knows of low cost or free options that I can print up for class that I can also get the answers with as well.....I don't really want to have to spend more money as I just bought an NCLEX book to have my students do study questions as well, and that was kinda pricey on my barebones budget! Thanks in advance for any help that you can give...

Thanks for those, I can use them. I'm just going to have to buckle down and make my own I guess, as I can't seem to find many resources out there. I have an old DA book that maybe I can just copy and change some facts around.

I looked at the 2 attachments in the email above.......I teach dosage calc, in addition to OB, so I was interested.

Just wondering why, in the MedSurg Math Test, is there so much focus on the apothecary system? I don't even teach it, other than to mention that it once existed and is obsolete (thank goodness). Along with the predominant metric system, I do teach household measures (tsp, ounce, etc.), but even in the latest edition (the 4th) of Curren's "Dimensional Analysis for Meds".....there is a total of 1 paragraph dedicted to the mention of the previous existence of the apothecary system and that it is no longer in use.

I wish we would drop it from the curriculum, because I never use it in practice and it's hard to remember all those conversions I think we continue to teach it because of the old country docs who still occasionally write an order, "Tylenol gr X."

just a thought: If your employer will not finance the purchase of this material, and it is not in the required textbook, then why not ask the library for the school to purchase some copies?
