computer charting

by nursebrandie28 Platinum Member

Hello all,

I have a strong concern. The hospital in where I teach clinicals at is going to a new charting system. In the one we currently have now, the students chart and "pend" the note, then I go to through, check it, make changes as needed and "complete" the chart. This new 'McKesson' system, I can no longer do that. How do you guys handle this computer charting, in which what they chart goes in whether it is right or not. I have 8 students, so I can not be with them ALL at once when they chart.

Any suggestions?

Brandie

The big monopoly hospital system in my area is on computer and they require that we just do one student supervisory note at the end of the shift stating that we were there in the facility supervising student care.

Our clinical instructors have the students write out their nursing notes prior to posting, the instructor looks it over, corrects as needed, then the student posts. With the computer charting, the student is always able to go in and correct as necessary.
