MSN, where do I go from here?

  1. I have been a nurse for 13 years and I am graduating from my MSN program in May. It has been a long road!

I have worked as a clinical instructor for the past 2 years. I have just recently started doing a bit of adjunct didactic teaching as well. I do this in addition to working two 12s in ICU.

I am seeing the light at the end of the tunnel.

My questions to current full-time faculty:

How did you progress from adjunct or clinical instructing to full-time faculty and over what length of time?

Do you have a doctoral degree or will you pursue one?

How long do you feel it took to be comfortable in a FT faculty role?

These first experiences of teaching didactic are nerve-racking and I don't know if I am cut out for it. I spend HOURS upon hours writing lectures and doing PowerPoints, but I am still not sure I am getting my point across. The nature of the beast is that we have to teach things that are not exactly our "expertise".

I enjoy clinical, but I know realistically that cannot be a full-time role.
