Hello fellow Nurse Educators out there! Please share your ideas on how to :uhoh3: provide effective and interactive educational hours/time to newly hired nurses. I often find it useful to get insight from others and I know I will get as much from you dear colleagues. Help out please...

I found that new nurses benefitted from spending a few hours with someone in other departments, from pharmacy to PT/OT to cardiac rehab to surgery to discharge planning (and others). This provides a good visual for them on the interconnectedness of departments and enhances their concept of flow of care.

They also spent a full shift with the ward clerk (very helpful for insight on the ebb and flow of the shift).

Thank you very much for your advise. I started putting your advise in the schedules I prepared for the orientation of our newly hired nurses. My superiors actually think that indeed this will really be interactive for them. Again thank you very much.:kiss
