I am trying to write an integrative review on the topic of the nursing faculty shortage. I have been searching for references to any earlier nursing shortages but am having little luck. I am not ready to make the assumption that this is the first ever nursing faculty shortage. Is anyone familiar with literature in this area that might help me with this search? If there was indeed a shortage before, I want to see what strategies were successful in alleviating it. I would appreciate any leads you have to offer.

There was a shortage in the mid to late 80s when I went to school. Do not know where to steer you though to validate it.

This will be a difficult topic to get information on. I am going to bump this thread to give it longer on the board and more of a chance for someone to answer you.

I would suggest trying the state board of nursing. Nursing programs have to file annual BON reports, and the BON should have data about how many faculty are in the state, credentials, etc...
