Can a peds nurse become a nurse educator?

  1. Hi everyone, I am currently a pediatric nurse in the process of completing my BSN. My plan is to immediately begin my MSN for nurse educator. How difficult is it to become a nurse educator with only a pediatric background? Will I be very limited in finding opportunities? Thanks in advance for all replies.

Hi and welcome to allnurses! In my area of the country, nurse educators with a pediatric nursing background are in great demand. You may want to check with your local schools of nursing. Best wishes to you

In my area, schools are desparate trying to find MSN prepared pediatric nurses to teach inpatient pediatric clinicals. So many of the peds nurses have focused their MSN's on becoming PNP's and practiced in outpatient areas for a few years, that the ones who focus on education and on inpatient peds nurses are rare and quite sought after.

Educators in pediatrics are in great demand. We are a rare breed. Good luck in school and as a future peds. educator.
