Will my Previous Degrees be put to Use?

Nurses Career Support

Published

I had a quick question that I was hoping someone could answer for me. I recently decided to go back to school to for nursing. I currently have a BS and MEd in exercise science and have worked in the past few years in strength and conditioning. I have been wondering if these two degrees and experience will be able to count towards anything in the nursing field? If anyone could give me any thoughts on the topic it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

People often come here and ask that. I always find it helpful to reframe these kinds of question -- how much would my nursing degrees and experience "count towards anything" if I were trying to change careers into exercise science?

Welcome to allnurses -- best wishes for your journey!

As far as nursing school and employers are concerned they are only worried about the RN part of your education. As far as your understanding of certain pathologies or being better suited for one specialty over another you can definitely leverage your previous education when selling yourself during an interview.
